“Historic stay in Philly”

Morris House Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Washington, DC
Apr 15, 2008

We had a wonderful stay for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly & helpful; the continental breakfast excellent. WIFI is free.

Morris House Hotel, built as a home in the 1780s, was converted to a small inn with 15 rooms several years ago. The Hotel has 2 or 3 buildings centered around a large courtyard. I think the original home houses the standard rooms, the suites are across the courtyard in what they call the restaurant building (the restaurant is not open now).

The hotel is well located--walking distance to the historical section and to Antique Row, as well as excellent restaurants. The neighborhood seemed safe, day and night.

We stayed in a suite & enjoyed the quiet, well-furnished room. Our suite, like the others, had a furnished kitchen. Some of the other suites have the kitchen in the sitting room. All of the rooms at the hotel require using steps. Because it is an historic building, an elevator was not installed.

I recommend asking for a room overlooking the street or courtyard, because our room looked at walls (the only negative I have).

Parking is extra., at a public garage across the street. The garage does not allow in & out access, i.e., you pay each time you leave. The 24 hour rate is $24. However, because the hotel is centrally-
located, we walked or took a taxi, leaving the car in the garage.

“Historic and Elegant!”

Morris House Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Morris House Hotel and loved it, the rooms were beautiful and full of charm. Our room was on the street side and it was still so quite! Breakfast was great we ate once in the dinning room and we also had it brought the room, that was really nice! The only thing that i think could improve would be the sign...we arrived late and not being familiar with the city it took some driving in circles before we found it. But all in all we highly recommend this place to anyone.

“Much more than I expected.”

My wife and I stayed for two nights in mid-Oct, 2007 in room 304 (a luxury room). We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The room was much larger and better accommodated than we'd been led to believe, which is a rare treat. I think their website does them a disservice in this regard. The staff was extremely helpful and the breakfast was good (more comparable to the kind of "continental" breakfast you get in an independent European hotel than at an American chain). It's located within pretty easy distance to some of Philly's cultural attractions and public transportation.

    • Disliked — The non-working remote control and the confusing internet situation.

“A Very Pleasant Stay”

Morris House Hotel

We have stayed in many hotels and B&B's in Philadelphia and feel that The Morris House offers comfortable accommodations and good value in an attractive and convenient setting. Our room was quite large with several comfortable chairs and a large bathroom. The decor was pleasing and appropriate for the period of the building. The young woman who checked us in was quite friendly and helpful and offered to carry my bag to the third floor. Other staff members were less friendly, but did their job as expected. Breakfast was all that we required and, thank heavens, coffee was available quite early. Unlike some other hotels, which offer only tiny tables for two for breakfast, The Morris House has the option of breakfasting at a large common table, where we met and shared travel experiences with other interesting guests.
We have already arranged for a return visit to the hotel.

“Loved it!”

My boyfriend and I were going into Philly for a night on South Street (which isn't a far walk away). There is a parking garage right across the street from the inn. Parking isn't cheap but convenient. The hotel was nice and quite. No elevators which was perfectly ok with us. As soon as we walked into the inn, it was like walking into another time period with the decor. It was so lovely. I did enjoy feeling like we had the run of the house with no bother from anyone. It was hard to get into the building though after hours (we arrived at 9:00pm) so we had to knock on the door to the side. But it was nice. The rooms were so charming. We stayed in room 303 (I think). It was the all red room. I believe its the most shown room on their website. There is not bathtub in that room, only a standing shower. There is also sky lighting in the bathroom, which was slightly annoying if your trying to sleep in b/c the bathroom door won't close shut.
The park is at the other end of the hotel so it was nice to relax there and also the courtyard was nice to get away from the craziness on the streets. I would definately recommend and visit again.
