“Wonderful Stay!”

Homewood Suites Philadelphia

My boyfriend took me to Philly for my birthday last year. We were very happy with our stay at the Homewood Suite!! We drove from the DC area and had a little trouble finding the hotel at first. I called and we quickly found it after that. Check in was easy. I believe we were on Floor 2 or 3. We were suprised how high the celings were. We had a standard room, king bed, small living area, and a kitchenette. I must say, the bed was heaven!!! Once you layed down, you could fall right to sleep. I fell asleep at 8 pm one night because I was so comfortable. The breakfast every morning was wonderful! Better that most other hotels free breakfast. One morning it got a bit crowded downstairs, so we just piled our plates with food, and took it back to our room. One thing to keep in mind, this hotel is not in the downtown part of the city. The hotel is situated right next to a college, so we felt pretty safe walking to and from the hotel to our car. The city was quite spotty with its shady neighborhoods though. Because we are unfamiliar with the city, we are happy we didn't choose a hotel downtown. Since we drove, we had a car to get around and didn't have too much of a problem with parking. You MUST go to Reading Terminal Market. We ate lunch there every day. There were so many choices!! Pat's Famous Cheesestakes is located in the market. We parked in a garaged the first day and walked around a city. I suggest finding an actual garage. I'm not quite sure what we parked in, but we decided not to go back there again. Anywho, we enjoyed walking aroud the city, although we were unsure about some areas. We did visit the museaum with the King Tut exhibit. SUCH A WASTE OF TIME!! We though we would see the actual scarcofagus. All you see is an image. Not worth it. We did enjoy drinking at a bar that is located across the street from Reding Terminal Market though. We met a very friendly guy who had recently gotten off work and dropped by for a drink. He attempted to tell us some things to do while visiting Philly. We also visited the Zoo. We had a wonderful time here. Very nice zoo, you definitely get what you pay for. Being from DC where the zoo is free, I was pleasently surprised how much nicer Philadelphia's Zoo exhibits where. We also visited the Art Musueam. It is a beautiful building, although they were doing work on the outside. We went on a Sunday when admission is free, so I suggest going then. It was a beautiful museaum. On Sat. evening we drove out to the King of Prussia mall. Anyone who loves shopping should visit it, however it has stores you will find in any decent mall. We made a night of it and did some shopping, had dinner, and went to a movie. In all, we both had a great time in Philly and cannot wait to go back.

“A Serendipitous Sojourn”

Homewood Suites Philadelphia

Hoping to stay near enough to downtown Philly for walking to downtown, I booked this mistakenly thinking it was attached to the downtown Hilton. It's actually a freeway drive away from downtown to the very edge of No. Philly--cross the street and you're in the next county. So the location was a miss; the hotel was not. Clean, pleasant rooms, nice view of downtown at night, first rate breakfast spread in the morning.

Adjoining Hilton's facilities available for use--fitness room and pool. Their Polo Lounge nice place for a quick lunch and dinner. Menu is small, but food is served out of the Delmonico's Restaurant kitchen, so really tasty. Spiced pecan goat cheese salad with hot pepper vinaigrette delicious ($8).

Thankfully didn't rent a car--driving downtown looks dreadful. The #44 bus stops nearby on City Ave and for $2 will whisk you down to 5th and Market (Independence Hall/historic area) in a pleasant 20 mins or so. A 15 min ride from the hotel outbound on the #44 will drop you off for a visit to the Barnes Foundation - a hidden gem of an art museum. Call ahead for tix.

And everything said about this Homewood staff is true--couldn't be nicer no matter the staff member or the shift. Thanks Toni and Vanessa.

Portions of downtown are a little sketchy, but folks were definitely friendly and helpful wherever we went. Ground Transp at the airport arranged a shuttle ($35) on arrival and had a nice tour of downtown while we dropped other passengers and worked our way out to our hotel. Cabbed it back to the airport (also $35) and were there in 12 minutes. All in all a very pleasant stay.

The length of our stay was a week, Sunday through Saturday. There is no bell service-lug your own in and out of the hotel. Parking is $5- not for the day, but for everytime your'e in and out of the lot. Pay extra ($10)and go for valet service, though it is not avialable from 12:00 to 6:00 AM.
We has a two bedroom and bath suite, top floor. Decent views.
The Hotel's bathrooms are not reccommended for the handicapped. There is no accessibility for wheelchairs. Plenty of storage spaces. Limited TV cable channel selection.
Friendly and courteous staff. Housekeepers will come when you want them to arrive-must arrange at front desk.
There is no room service. However, the morning breakfasts were good. Dinners, while limited, were also good and plentiful. Nightly dishes include either Ziti, Rosemary chicken, Hot Roast beef , cheeseteaks, spinach ravioli and seafood stew. All served with salad, beer, wine, tea, lemonade or soda. If your'e not sociable,no problem- take your meal to your room.
Being an end and top floor unit, hot water took a long time to get to one of the tubs. Plenty of counter space for toiletry and make-up items.
Kitchenette comes with refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and large over-stove microwave. All cooking utensils are provided, including mixing bowls. Small coffee maker is also there, complete with teas and instant coffee mixes.
Their in-house store is expensive. If you want to stock up on food, go the Pathmark at the end of Stout Road or go two blocks south to the Acme on the right.
Traffic congestion in the morning and evening rush-hours, be advised to take caution when leaving the hotel during these hours.
I'd recommend the two bedroom suite for family of four, because of the sleeper sofa in the sitting area.
As for the handicapped customers, go the Residence Inn in nearby Conshohocken; at least they have roll-in showers.

“Friendliest Hotel in the City of Brotherly Love”

Homewood Suites Philadelphia

4 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, California

Because I travel a lot, mostly internationally, I can be the hotel guest from hell. Generally I do not tolerate family-style hotels, but most Homewood Suites generally do a great job, are fairly priced, and have great Internet connections. While this hotel's facility is pleasant (the lobby area borders on elegant!) what distinguishes this hotel is the warm and friendly staff. Being the recipient of fake warmth and superficial fawning at many properties, it was incredibly refreshing to feel genuinely welcomed by each and every person I met at the Homewood Suites. My first, last, and all endurable impressions were that these people really enjoy the hospitality business, and they are in the business of providing hospitality.

Philadelphia is a warm and wonderful city, which caught me off guard (though I'm not sure why). Though everywhere I went I was treated with courtesy and respect, the most courteous, respectful, and gracious people I met were the ones who work at the Homewood Suites.

The location of this property is not convenient, if you have business downtown. However, even if I did have to commute the few miles from this property to the center of the city, I would do it eagerly for the chance to stay here. My business was a short distance from this hotel, which made it even better for me -- because I was always in a hurry to get back "home," at the Homewood Suites, where I was welcomed with smiles, encouragement, and a cheerful greeting each time I walked through the door.

“Favorite Homewood Suites in the Country!”

Homewood Suites Philadelphia

Nov 14, 2007

I've stayed at this Homewood Suites at least ten times. Can usually find on-street parking, so avoid the lot if you can (it's a slight trek that is magnified when you're weighed down with luggage). The hotel faces the city reservoir, so I'm always glad to see the ducks wandering in search of a bite to eat. Hotel staff is very friendly. Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated in neutral shades of beige, tan, and gold. I especially like that I can work at the desk and also face the tv. Breakfast and dinner are included, and the selections surpass the frozen food/cafeteria quality usually expected at Homewood Suites and Residence Inns. Fresh fruit, salad, rolls, and an entree are served for dinner and breakfasts include fruit, sausage, bacon, eggs, cereal, bagels, cheese, muffins, and yogurt. The kitchenette in each room is useful for heating leftovers or making your own food if what's on the menu for the included meals doesn't appeal. The windows in each suite open, which is refreshing for those who like a bit of fresh air now and then. My favorite studio suites are those that end in 01 because they are slightly more spacious (and have a separate vanity area for the bathroom) and have a good view of the reservoir. Beware the one bedroom suite rooms that are on the very end, farthest to the right of the elevator. These tend to have loud heat/AC units. Although the hotel is not near downtown Philly, it is a quick highway drive downtown or to nearby suburbs. This hotel is connected to the Hilton. I much prefer the Homewood Suites. It is cheerier, brighter, and the meals beat the snacks Hilton offers for Hhonors members. BTW, they used to offer half hour trivia games (with prizes such as gift certificates) in the lobby every other Wednesday evening. Haven't noticed lately if this practice continues.
