Before I launch my complaints against this hotel and my experience there, I should just say up-front that the desk manager (I think his name was Erik) was very nice and tried very hard (mostly unsuccessfully) to fix the problems I encountered.
I had to do some work at Temple University for a few days and since the Conwell Inn is the only hotel on campus I was happy to get a room there. When I arrived on the first day I discovered that my meeting was pushed off until the afternoon, so I wanted to check in early. Even though the previous occupant of my room had checked out the cleaning crew refused the desk manager's request to clean my room first and insisted on going through their regular routine, forcing me to just walk around for a few hours waiting for them to get to my room.
When I got to my room the key card wouldn't work and I was told that it won't work if it gets near a cell phone! Although I need internet for my work, their wireless was down for the entirety of my stay, and they couldn't get a cable to work most of the time either. Half of the channels offered on TV did not function (they told me it was a broken cable box), there was no pot in the coffee-maker, the shower was very weak and there were little things broken throughout. After a while I just didn't bother to complain and just sucked it up.
The desk manager did knock off some of the price for me, but since this was work I would have gotten reimbursed anyway.
I thought that I was getting a good deal staying on campus instead of having to travel from center-city, but next time, that's exactly what I'll do.
