“Great Hotel.”

Loews Philadelphia Hotel

Overall our experience at the Loews Hotel was great. I decided to give Priceline a chance and booked a room for only $95.

A few days before our arrival I called to verify our room and also to make sure that my Loews First number was listed on the reservation. The woman said it was and asked what "amenity" I would like (Loews First members get their choice of a variety of amenities upon arrival, like wine, beer, water and fruit, cookies and milk, etc). The woman also noted that I had booked via Priceline, but seemed as though this was a non-issue.

When we arrived, the small lobby was crowded--lots of families, children, and pets. I was then told that despite being a Loews First member I would not receive my choice of amenity (I had chosen beer and nuts) since I had booked via Priceline. That was disappointing, but didn't spoil our stay.

Also at check in we were asked if we would like turn down service and we said "yes." However, during our 2 night stay we got no turn down service at all. The housekeeping service was also a bit questionable, as one day we were out of our room all day--returning around 4 to a messy room. We left again and returned after midnight and our room had been made up, which was a relief, since I was worried that it wasn't going to be clean--something you shouldn't need to worry about at a "4-Star" hotel.

The whole hotel has a "hip and modern" yet retro feel. Our room--on the 15th floor was near a fire-stairwell, so I think it may have been bigger than most rooms, it was quite spacious with high ceilings. The desk/dresser was scuffed and scratched, but that's no big deal to me. There was a refrigerator in the room--no minibar though.

At night the hotel's restaurant, Sole Food becomes a night club (at least it did the weekend we stayed there) so there were alot of people in the lobby that were dressed for "clubbing," and that had been drinking.

If you are planning a relaxing weekend, or a "grown up" hotel you may want to look elsewhere. Though this hotel has a grown-up vibe, they also allow kids to stay free, (not sure why, as they don't seem to have much "kid friendly" stuff to do, even the pool is an indoor lap pool). They are also very pet-friendly so there were children and pets all over.

The 33rd floor is like an open observatory for guests to enjoy the view (they have private functions there also). We were able to bring our drinks there and watch fireworks and take in the city view, which was lovely.

The Loews has a great location--we walked everywhere. It's a good (long) walk to the Art Museum and also to Penn's Landing, and everything in between.

“Poor Service, Loud, Not worth the $$”

Loews Philadelphia Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed here over the 4th of July weekend to enjoy all the Center City events and our experience was pretty bad. Check in was easy and the reception was friendly but the room was small and cramped. The walls were really thin and you could hear doors slamming all morning and all night. The other guests at the hotel were very loud on our floor at night and we could hear them shouting down hallways tlil 2am. Housekeeping was the worst part. Only one of our three nights we actually got turn down and on two occaisions the used towels that we placed on the floor were not picked up. Dirty dishes were left in the room and they didn't tidy up any of the bathroom. The room also only had one trash can which made it difficult to toss out drinks and papers. Parking at the hotel is also expensive at $38 a night when the garage down the street was about $20.

The restaurant downstairs was decent but at night it becomes very loud with club music and attracts a much younger crowd. The spa and gym facilities were just ok too. They were clean and well kept but I was not impressed with my massage.

Overall, the location was good for walking around but for what you pay... you're better off somewhere else. I would not stay at that hotel ever again.

“Beautiful Hotel, Mixed Service”

Loews Philadelphia Hotel

Jul 6, 2008

I spent July 4th weekend at the Loews in Philadephia. I had a mixed experience.

The positives:
(1) The location is great for exploring Philadelphia. It is convenient to Reading Terminal for a nice breakfast or lunch, close to Chinatown, and an easy walk to most parts of Center City.
(2) The room was beautiful. The furnishings are up to date, and the bed is quite comfortable.
(3) The valet was straightforward about self-parking across the street, which is half the cost of valet parking (only $18 per day). It worked out great since we didn't need to move the car around at all.

The negatives:
(1) The dirty towels were removed from my room the second day of my stay but no replacements were put in the room. I called the Star service line at 5pm and was told the hotel ran out of clean towels, but upon their arrival they would be dropped off. I had to call again at 9:30pm; 15 minutes later the clean towels arrived.
(2) I requested turn down service in advance; this occurred only 1 of the 2 days I was there.
(3) The spa and fitness center staff were indifferent to the behavior of patrons. While I was in there using a treadmill, very young children (probably about 6 or 7 years old) got on other treadmills and were jumping around and not paying attention. They were acting similarly on other equipment, and staff walked past and completely ignored them. This happened 2 days in a row.

Overall, this really is a beautiful property and none of the negatives in any way spoiled the weekend.

“poor WiFi”

Loews Philadelphia Hotel

4 of 5 stars
West Grove, Pennsylvania
Jul 3, 2008

I stayed at the Loew's on business and found the facility clean and the staff very helpful. However, I could not get my laptop to connect to the internet in the room where I was put. (7th floor, which is for pet owners--that did not bother me.) Parking was rather expensive, even for Central Philadelphia ($35/nite) and there was no coffee in the room. Toilet was low flush and light bulbs were mercury type which I don't like--not an Al Gore fan. I had asked in advance for late check-out and was told I could only stay until 2 PM. (I had hoped for 3 PM) This is not a bad choice if you get a good price. The location is unobjectionable if you have meetings at the Convention Center or City Hall.

“What A GREAT Hotel! Customer Service is Tops!”

Loews Philadelphia Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Philadelphia PA
Jun 29, 2008

This was our second stay at the Philadelphia LOEWS and we were decidely impressed! Not only is this a classy, understated hotel with great amenities, the customer service is pretty much off the scale. Example: our water was barely coming out of the faucet; we told the front desk and when we returned to our room that night after a day of sightseeing, were informed that we would have to be moved to another room as the probem was not yet fixed. Not only did we get a goodie bag of treats from the Reading Terminal Market, our first night's stay was comped because of the inconvenience of having to move. Everyone was just fantastic and the room (both of them) were lovely! Great location too; minutes from everything, including the Reading Terminal Market, which has a great diner ("The Down Home Diner") if you're looking for a good, inexpensive meal. (We loved the breakfast there; went both days!).
