“Awesome location! Wonderful hotel!”

I stayed at this hotel the week of May 31 - June 4 while I attended a conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center. What a great hotel! The location is in what seems like a very safe area, and is within walking distance to all of the major sights (U.S. Mint, Libery Bell, Betsy Ross House, Constitution Hall, etc.) and 8 blocks from the convention center.

The staff here was very friendly and the rooms are very clean and large. However, I would suggest requesting a room away from Arch street. There is a fire station on the corner of 4th and Arch, and let me just say that it is an EXTREMELY busy station. Not exactly conducive to sleeping. However, if you keep the air-conditioning on, it drowns out the noise.

Philadelphia is a great city! And I would highly recommend staying in this hotel if you want to be close to the major attractions.

“Clean Hotel. Nice Staff. So So Meals.”

Clean hotel, within walking distance of all major historical places in Independence Park. Clean rooms, comfortable and secure. Excellent staff. Dinner meal was essentially pub-like food and was disappointing. Breakfast area does not have near enough seats for the number of guests in the hotel. Went back to my room and ordered room service for breakfast meals which turned out to be cheaper than if I had used the buffet. I will use this hotel again for the next several business trips.

“Nice Hotel, Close to Sights”

Holiday Inn Philadelphia - Historic District

Jun 4, 2008

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The rooms were clean, we had a view of the Christ Church steeple from our room. All the sights were in walking distance: Ben Franklin's grave, Franklin court, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, the mint, etc. We parked the car and didn't have to use it once.
We got a little confused at the parking instructions. Being from "the country" where you don't have to pay for parking or get your parking validated, we were lost! I asked the person at check-in exactly what we needed to do, but she didn't help much. We were suppossed to give them our parking ticket on check-in so we would pay a lower price, but we didn't. It wasn't a problem, though, they fixed it for me at check-out.
One thing I thought was weird about this hotel is that they didn't have the weather channel. If we wanted to look at the weather, we had to catch it in the morning local news. ?
If we plan another trip here I would definitely stay again.

“Friendly, great location”

We just spent 2 nights at the hotel over Memorial Day All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We got a bed upgrade from double to Queen, which wasn't available when we booked.
Room was clean and fresh, not luxurious, but looked recently decorated. Shower was great, towels yummy, nice soap, etc. Had breakfast, reasonably priced and good. Even the gift shop lady was helpful.

Drawbacks: fire station on the corner, were awakened only once. The mattress dipped in the middle. Location outweighed any issues.

Walked to majority of historic sites, tour buses, walking tours (Benjamin Franklin's Footsteps with Tyson!), "An Evening With Ben Franklin" (so much fun). Warning: Graff House where Jefferson wrote the Declaration, by appt., only open 1 hour a day.

Some shopping, movie theaters, music and bar scene on Fri. and Sat. night closer to the river. Great meals at City Tavern (don't miss Martha Washington's choc mousse cake, and Ben Franklin's ale), Reading Terminal Market (Fri-Sat. bkfst lunch only--Dutch Eating Place Reuben Sand. and Apple Dumpling) and breakfast at Fork etc. (incredible fresh-baked bread).
Could take subway or bus or trolley if too far to walk. Pine St. charming and quiet walk. Art Museum was superb, the famous pieces and the unexpectedly beautiful.
Too much to do in just 3 days.

“Best thing about it is location”

I stayed at this hotel because it was the least expensive ($180/night!) hotel available during my reunion weekend. My other choices were both near or over $300/night, so it was a no-brainer to stay here.

The staff were very friendly, and accommodated my request for an early check-in. If you're in town to see the historic sights, you won't find a better location -- it can't be more than 3 blocks from Independence Hall. Overnight parking is $20 for guests, which I think is a pretty good deal for the location.

But the place looks a bit run-down, and the plumbing in my room wasn't the greatest -- the toilet kept making noises, and my shower drain didn't work. I didn't realize the shower problem until I was running late for an appointment and didn't have time to call the front desk, so I can't report on how the hotel would have responded. In all, I got what I needed -- a clean, serviceable hotel in town, but I would not want to stay here for a special occasion.
