I have just returned from a 4 night break in New York, what a great city-nearly as good as London! I stayed in Queens at the Pan Am Hotel which was much cheaper than staying in Manhatten leaving me with more cash to spend in all those lovely shops. I didnt like Macey's - too hectic, but Bloomingdales was great and if you want a lovely lunch go to Le Train Bleu in Bloomingdales they offer excellent food and great service.
The Empire State building viewing platform at night was just magical i have never seen so many lights.
If you want to see a show on broadway go to the half price ticket booth in Times Square i got tickets to see Chicago.
My whole experience of n.y .was great, the shop staff are so helpful and polite and the transport system is excellent and very cheap.
My only gripe is being ripped off by an electrical shop on 5th avenue-beware of on/off digital world. i bought some i pod bits and was charged way over the top. They took advantage of 2 women tourists, sadly i'm not the only one to be ripped off having since read other tales on the net. I would say buy electrical bits from the main stores. Lord and Taylor on 5th avenue is a lovely store.
Finally if you are thinking of visiting New York-do it you wont be disappointed.
