“good for families”

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East

Finding a decent hotel for families in NYC isn't easy, and from a short-list of two I booked this hotel. We found our stay very pleasant: the room was a good size and the beds were huge and very comfy.
The room was cleaned with fresh bedding and towels every day and checking in and out was a breeze.

I notice that another reviewer complained about the tv being old. Well if you go to NYC the last thing you should be doing is watching tv!

Location wise the hotel is in a great spot. There are loads of places to eat within very short walking distance, and the subway (E & V trains) is literally 50 yards from the entrance. It's about 25 mins stroll to The Rock on 5th Ave, about 45 mins walk to Times Square or ESB.

For the money (about £180pn) i can't complain, given the city you're staying at. By the way, try Houstons Restaurant (underneath Barnes & Noble - north of the hotel on 3rd Ave). It's not especially cheap, but the meal was great and a very nice laid back atmosphere - the kids loved it! Afterwards head upstairs to Barnes and Noble and get lost amongst the bookshelves.

“Very comfortable break”

We stayed at the Courtyard New York Manhattan in February 2008. It was our first visit to New York and we were not disappointed. I found this hotel on Trip Advisor. We stayed for six nights and found the price very reasonable. The hotel is situated in a quieter part of Manhattan but very accessible by bus, taxi or undergound. Having said that, we walked just about everywhere. The week was very cold and windy but we were well prepared. Broadway is an easy and safe 15 -20 mins walk. Central Station is 5 mins away. We found the staff very friendly and very helpful. The bedroom was very comfortable. The breakfast, either continental or cooked was excellent. Email and Web facilities were supposed to be available in the room but the staff admitted they didn't work. Having said that, there were computers on the 10th? floor. We took the Grey Line open top bus tours around the island including the Brooklyn loop and the night tour. We visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (well worth it); Ground Zero, Empire State Building (go early) and Central Station. Also St. Patricks Cathedral and the Rockefeller Center. We took a bus to New Jersey from the Port Authority Terminal to visit relatives. On our last day we had snow and decided to visit Central Park which was wonderful. During our stay we took in two shows on Broadway - Phantom of the Opera and Spamalot. A very enjoyable, hastle free week.

“Unremarkable”

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East

Distinctly average city centre hotel (3rd St near 53rd St) with few facilities, and quite expensive (I paid about 250 pounds per night).

However, the room was clean and large and the location is good.

The staff seemed friendly enough.

A big positve was the free internet terminals (including printing) on the breakfast floor, which were accessible 24 hours.

Close to subway and many decent bars and budget eating choices nearby.

“Great place for families!”

This is a great place, especially if you have young children. The front desk is exceptional. The room size is outstanding, especially for NYC. We were treated like royality. It was kids' first trip to NYC and they will never forget it! The location is wonderful, it is the right in the middle of everything! Go right and you walk to uptown and go left and walk to downtown. There are also several restaurants around the area. The concierge is very helpful. Ask for a fridge, it is completely FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Thanks, tripadvisor! GREAT HOTEL!”

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East

Great hotel, great staff, quiet rooms, excellent location, nearby restaurants and shops, no complaints!

We checked in and asked for a room away from the elevator, and were told we could check in our bags and come back later when a room was available. The bellboy then told us that a large room was available, but that it was near the elevator, which you couldn't hear. He took us up to an "03" room (that is, a room ending in "03", like 1803, 1903), put us in the room, and then operated the elevator, which we did NOT hear. And we did not hear our neighbors to either side, or above us at any time. And the room with two queen beds was VERY spacious (he said it was one of the larger room layouts in the hotel)!

There was a subway station on the corner, a drug store downstairs, and Starbucks, sandwich, pastry, health food, Jamba, breakfast, and other stores within a two block radius in every direction. The area was quieter at night than Times Square, or other parts of the city, which was best in this city for getting rest from running around during the day.

The concierge was great, scoring tickets the SAME DAY for "South Pacific", and the friendly and efficient staff accommodated our every request, including cleaning our room over the dinner hour when we mistakenly left the "Do Not Disturb" hanger on the door when we left for the day.

If you want bars, nightclubs, and nightlife AT your hotel, stay in noisy Times Square, and live it up!

If you want a centrally located hotel with an excellent staff, large, quiet rooms, and everything you might need nearby, this is the place!
