We got a corporate rate through my company for our stay. We paid about $210 a night and the rate included breakfast. The trip was a personal trip and my husband and I with my 8 month old daugther celebrated father's day here together. First off, NYC is very expensive and so you must always have cash on hand. If you expect any kind of reasonable service from the bell hops, etc, you must tip them. Tip them well b/c you will need them. We had a king room on floor 15 and it was lovely. It had a fridge and microwave and a nice flat screen tv. Our room was quite large however our bathroom was very tiny. The door barely misses the toilet when you try to open it. That is typical of NYC hotels from what I've experienced and the size of the general room more than made up for it.
The rate included breakfast as I mentioned, and it was quite good. It was at the restaurant attached to the hotel and was very hearty. There is a set menu for you to choose from which included waffles with bacon or an omelette with bacon and potatoes. It filled us up and so we were good for about 6 hours!
Times square is about 2 blocks around the corner. Very close proximity and an easy walk. We even walked to Pier 83 which is where all the boat tours are. We paid $29 each (adults) for the tour and it took us halfway around the island for 2 hours. We got to see the statue of liberty up close and all the bridges. It was fantastic and was operated by circle line 42. I would suggest arriving 45 min early to secure a space in line. We got on the boat last and wound up with mediocre seats. We eventually got to stand at the beginning of the boat to see the water.
Check out Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's restaurant) if you have time. The food is to die for. Excellent chef that one is (My yodaism for the day).
All in all, the HGI times square is one that I will definitely stay in again. The rooms look just like the pics and they are very accomodating. Great place!
