“Not usually fussy but Location and room terrible”

This was my 3rd trip to NYC for shopping purposes! Last time we stayed in the Belvedere (very close to Times sq) and loved it but this time my husband thought we may as well try somewhere new. As mentioned on a previous review we were met with Scaffolding outside the hotel, the reception area was terrible and there was no one around to help with bags. The room was very disappointing - the bathroom was more appropiate for a 6 year old child it was so small and there was a very run down kitchenette in our room which was falling apart and useless. Also the window was falling out of the frame and we had gushing wind howling at us everynight. The heating system is also ancient. The walk to Times Sq. and port authority (for bus to outlets) was way too far especially in -25 freezing winds.
Do yourself a favour and book closer to Times Sq especially if your planning on going to see some shows.

I just got back yesterday from a four night stay at the Shelburne with two girl friends. We all loved this hotel, the staff were fantastic, from the door to housekeeping to front desk. The maid who looked after our room reported our broken heating before we even had a chance to! :) The beds were oh so comfortable, i wish i could have shipped them back home to the UK! The area is great too, close to all the tourist attractions, but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping/business areas. We felt very safe walking in this area at any time of day or night. We will definately be coming back to the Shelburne!

“Basic & plain but great location”

When we arrived to our hotel, we were surprised by the scaffolding outside, although once we got inside it wasnt' so bad. The Reception area didn't look as nice as it did in the photos, so this was a surprise. I expected the Reception staff to be friendlier after reading the great reviews about them, but was quite disappointed. The location is good and it has a police box just down the road a bit. The room was absolutely huge along with the biggest and most comfortable bed I've ever slept in so I was pleased about this. I would recommend this hotel, as it was in a great location, rooms are huge along with the bed and cleaned on a daily basis.

“Loved it!”

My husband and I stayed here for only one night on our recent visit to NYC and were lucky to get the best rate in town ($109) by bidding on Priceline earlier that morning. Score! We knew that it was pretty far away from some of the sights we had planned to see that day but for a 3-star hotel at that price it was totally worth it to us.

What we hadn't expected was how cute the area was. Murray-Hill is for sure the most charming part of NYC that we saw. It was clean, pretty and obviously very affluent. We felt very safe walking the streets at night. Furthermore, the room was amazing! We had no idea that we'd 'won' a suite. The living room had a pull-out couch and TV, there was a kitchen, full bath and large bedroom also with TV. It was like a regular suite in any other city. Unusually roomy for an inexpensive room in NYC.

Things that visitors might want to know...(1) use Grand Central Station. It's the closest stop. (2) it was only a $23 cab to LaGuardia!

Stay here. It's worth it. We WILL be back!

Totally agree with a lot of the comments here, this hotel although could do with a bit of decorating in some of the rooms this really shouldn't put you off staying here. The beds are so comfortable and massive but maybe thats due to us having small beds in UK.
The staff are really helpful and friendly (especially to us brits!) and after telling them we had stayed in the same hotel the year before they straight away gave us an upgrade without us even asking!
The location is really useful and a lot of attractions are only 15 minutes walk away. The neighbourhood seemed nice enough and we never felt uneasy out at night.
