Yes, great location. But there are better places nearby - The Library, Dylan and Roosevelt for example.
For the price, the Bryant Park is far better.

The Grand Hyatt has an impressive lobby, a wonderfully convenient location for shopping, and your typical hotel amenities. Although this is not a huge selling point, I always enjoy hotels that provide movies in the room (for an additional charge) and I was more than happy with the selection available. An added bonus is the handy dandy electronic check-in and check-out- great for people like me who dislike those tedious routines that come along with traveling. The staff were friendly and even approached us as we were checking out (electronically) to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.
However, if you're seeking a uniquely NYC experience or that delightful gem of personalized service, comfort, AND sophistication I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere. Not surprisingly, the Grand Hyatt's room lacked the coziness or luster that the magnificent lobby (and website) would lead one to anticipate. Although they have attempted to modernize the rooms they came short of accomplishing anything truly impressive- I would even go so far as to say the decor comes uncomfortably close to being tacky. Nevertheless, it is what it is... a standard, generic hotel room.
Despite my negative assertions above my experiences at the hotel were nothing less than satisfactory- I was even startled to find out that the room was slightly larger than I expected. Also, my companion traveler and I were without our luggage (I have more than a few unkind things to write about Continental Airlines) and the hotel provided us with 3 kits full of deluxe-sized toiletries.
If you're traveling to the city for business, you're not celebrating any major events, and/or you aren't intending on making your hotel one of the highlights of your stay in NYC, then I would definitely suggest the Grand Hyatt to you.
We arrived at 00.25. There was no one at the rear entrance to handle our luggage. Tips are expected at every stop point.
Our room on the 22nd floor was small, the bathroom very tight,no separate shower and the bed linen disgraceful.
Despite having requested a king size bed in july, there were only twin beds available. The front desk were unhelpful. We moved the following morning to the 27th floor and the suite was great. The bathroom was the same size and configuration as on the lower floor.
The Manhattan Bar has great staff but the area is in desperate need of a face lift.

ServiceLarge, busy hotel with a great location. Access to Grand Central Terminal and subways without having to go outside (very useful on rainy or very cold days). The east side location with quick access to the shuttle subway (S train), which allows direct access to Times Square, makes this a very convenient location for all midtown locations.
Rooms are large by NYC standards. I have stayed in this hotel three times in the past year and have always asked for and have received a renovated room. The rooms were well designed and very comfortable.
In contrast to some other posters, I did not notice any noise problems. The hotel does cater to large groups and the check out lines can be long. However the lines can be avoided by checking in with a credit card and then checking out by phone, TV or by using the computer check out in the lobby.
Negatives include very high ($60.00 per night) valet parking without in and out privileges, as well as high fees for internet. However this is typical for NYC hotels.

Service
Business serviceWon a really good bid on priceline.
Pros: Arrived around 10:30 and got to check in early. Stayed in nice sized King room. Because there was only 1 bed there was lots of floor space in the room. Never heard our neighbors while we were there. Good thermostat control of heat in room. Nice shower pressure. In room safe. Clean iron and ironing board. extra pillows in the closet. Really dark window shades for sleeping in late without the sun shining in your face. Front desk staff was nice and they implemented a checkin line with a person directing the line - this was new since the last time we stayed there and it helped the line move quickly and elminated people from skipping into the line ahead of others. They also have a phone checkout system now in addition to the check out kiosks in the lobby which was nice - just call and leave your name and room number, leave the keys in the room and you can leave. Convenient location with good subway access and lots of cabs everywhere. Clean rooms and comfortable beds.
Cons: Not enough towels, really slow elevators and they stopped on every floor on the way down. No fridge in the room.
