My husband and I (mid-forties) and our 15-year-old son stayed in a one-bedroom suite from June 21-28, 2008. Since we were staying a full week, we wanted to stay somewhere a little more roomy than average, so we selected the Affinia Dumont after reading numerous reviews. We were delighted with our stay! First of all, the staff is highly committed to customer service. Even before we arrived, we experienced this when I requested a reduction in our room rate based on a drop in rates I noticed online. Within just a few hours, I received a new confirmation with the lower rate. The hotel itself is located in a quiet area with many hidden restaurant gems nearby. Our room was spotless and remained so. We were on the 24th floor and heard nothing but the occasional distant siren (not enough to wake one.) The kitchen was unbelievably handy, since we could pick up items from Murray Hill Market and Duane Reade in the same block. Our suite was incredibly spacious, with a fantastic amount of storage space, even for overpackers such as ourselves. I would absolutely not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend Affinia Dumont for its roominess, cleanliness, location, and commitment to customer service.

“Excellent Family Hotel. We love the Affinia Dumont”

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel in mid June. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our suite was very large, and accommodated our family of 5 very comfortably. It was very clean and the Aveda products are great! The kitchenette came in very handy especially for breakfast and late night snacks. The restaurant offering room service was reasonably priced and decent. Not the best food we've had but the pizza was perfect for the kids. There is a great fitness room which my husband and sons raved about. (unfortunately I never got a chance to go...). This is a top notch hotel and perfect option for a family or large group. Perfectly located just 2 blocks from the subway, within walking distance of lots of sights. I felt safe in this neighborhood even walking alone at night. We will definitely stay here again and I give it a major thumbs up!

“Loved the Affinia”

We stayed for three nights in June at the Affinia Dumont and found it to be just perfect. On arrival we were greeted by Alex doorman/concierge who took care of our luggage and helped with my wheelchair as N.Y, cabbies don't seem to like helping with these. Check in was very efficient and the receptionist supplied us with maps and info for our visit. Our room was on the 25th floor with great views of the Chrysler Building, thought the pillow menu excellent idea but we stuck to the feather and down pillows, bed and pillows very comfortable. The hotel was in a great location and we were able to walk to Empire State building, Macy's and Central Station. Took Alex's recommendation on where to eat on our last night, a little Italian restaurant just around the corner, he didn't let us down it was lovely. Overall we had a great time and would certainly stay here again if we come back to New York.

“Amazing views, friendly staff, great location - highly recommended!”

Affinia Dumont

We booked the Affinia solely on it's rating on Trip Advisor and I'm pleased to say that you all have excellent judgement!

We only stayed 2 nights as we decided to spit the stay between here and a cheaper place as finances were tight, but I'm really glad we did as it was a fabulous place to end the trip.

We stayed in a junior suite on floor 33 (or something around that number) and we got an amazing corner room. You can't determine the exact room when you book so it's partly luck of the draw, but we booked a fair while in advance and asked for a room that was high up with a good view and preferably on the corner and they obviously made the effort to meet our wishes.

The room was huge - if one person was on the sofa and the other on the bed, you had to speak up slightly to be heard! The bathroom was impeccably clean and well fitted out and the spacious kitchen area was an unexpected bonus. Everything was spotless and the cleaners even washed up our dirty cutlery (which I felt very guilty about!). But by far the best feature of the room was the breathtaking view - you only have to look at the pictures here on trip advisor to see what I mean.

The hotel is in a great location - not smack bang in the tourist district, but close to most attractions on the subway. The staff were friendly in a very genuine way, especially our lovely porter who was really helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but were advised that there are many places nearby (hundred yards or so) that are nicer & better value. We ate breakfast at a great coffee place about 1min from the hotel and there was a great 24hr grocery store nearby on the corner with a lovely deli (the lemon chicken was to die for). With a kitchen in the room this means you can actually save quite a bit on eating out.

All in all we had a wonderful stay, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a luxury stay at a reasonable price in central New York.

“Watching the 4th of July fireworks in a great hotel”

Affinia Dumont

5 of 5 stars
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Jul 11, 2008

The past few years I only select hotels based on the reviews in TripAdvisor. Again we were very pleasantly surprised with finding and chosing the Affinia Dumont hotel located in Murray Hill on this website. We first searched the big hotelwebsites, Expedia's, Kayak's etc. to find a good deal, but in the end the best deal was on the hotel's website itself. As a matter of fact I cannot remember when I booked a hotel or flight through one of these big sites for the last time. I am afraid they are losing their value-add for me.

We also followed the advise of a previous reviewer to go to Penelope's (Lexington Avenue) for breakfast: great place and staff. And the Affinia advised us two great restaurants: Jackson Hole (for a good American hamburger - down PArk Avenue) and Daciro (Italian - also down Lexington Avenue). All very close to the hotel which does have a restaurant next door (Barking Dog - also okay), which also delivers for the room service of the hotel. I am not sure whether this is part of the hotel as such - if so, maybe they should be more clear about this.

For the 4th of July the hotel made a suite available for its guests from where we could view the fireworks. Great since it was raining and nearly impossible to access the viewing points (we we walked back after several attempts to get there; we were stopped everywhere by the police).

We had a large one bedroom suite with all we needed for our one week stay. We were on the 29th floor and traffic could still be heard, but not in a way that it kept us awake.

So: great!
