My husband, daughter and I spent four days in a one-bedroom deluxe suite with a balcony at the Hotel Benjamin at the end of May. The boutique hotel was built in 1927 and has lovely architectural details such as ornate columns, iron railings, a sculpted ceiling, etc. It is elegant with up-to-date amenities. Our suite was very bright with two picture windows and two glass patio doors on each side of the sitting area, another large window in the bedroom, and even a small one in the bathroom. My favorite part of the suite was the private balcony with a cityscape view. Each night we relaxed and enjoyed the fabulous view from the balcony. The hotel is centrally located in east Manhattan close to sights, shopping, and the subway.
Our suite was a nice size (550 sq ft) with two 32-inch flat-screened TVs, three phones, a stereo, a Bose radio in the bedroom, and a big desk with fax. There was a very nice kitchenette with sink, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, and dish cabinet. The bathroom was luxurious with marble counters and floors, although a little small. The counter space was just adequate (for 3) and I’d recommend bringing a hanging toiletry bag. There was lots of drawer space and two closets. The bedroom had a nice lamp on one side of the bed, but not the other. We resolved this by buying a reading lamp that attaches to one’s book. The sofa bed was not very comfortable according to our daughter, but she said nothing about it until late the last night. I think this could have been resolved with extra padding/layers. There was an extensive pillow menu that was very nice, especially for me since I normally use a tempurpedic pillow.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very kind to let us into our room early, as soon as it was available, and to extend our stay two hours. Housekeeping did a very nice job keeping our suite clean. We had a wonderful time at the Benjamin and will definitely stay there again.
