The hotel is older as some others have commented, but everything about my stay was excellent. Let me just turn to some other's comments that stick in my mind.
The location is fine if one has a car. Naturally it can be reached by taxi. Once there it was possible to walk to a busy area around Sixth and University. From there one could take buses that connect with the city's good transportation system. I must admit I drove to Old Town where I could park free all day, and from there I could take trolleys even to the Mexican border, to Petco ballpark or other areas around the city. If you are unfamiliar with San Diego and driving I would recommend a GPS system will be very helpful in getting around.
The complimentary breakfast is very good. I actually went away feeling I had overeaten. There was cereal, juices, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, sweet rolls, bagels, English muffins, coffee, milk and other things I have forgotten. The view from the top of the hotel where breakfast is served was very pleasant.
If the hotel is rather full then parking at night in the hotel lot can be problematic, but there are many available spots on the streets right around the hotel.
The presentation of the food in the restaurant is first rate, and my dinner of prime rib was good, but I somehow felt I was in the hands of a young chef who was trying very hard...
The room was spotless, including the kitchen. The bed was perfect. The couch was a tad thread-worn on one pillow (I must find something negative, right?).
The Wifi in the room was a bit weak at times, yet I could always get on-line.
I would definitely stay there again and recommend it.
