“Perfect Location for a Family Vacation”

Westin San Diego

5 of 5 stars

This hotel is in downtown San Diego and is the best location to explore San Diego. I have a two year old and a fourteen year old. The youngest was absolutely amazed that he could see from our room all of the ships passing on the San Diego Bay and the red trolley that stops one block away from the hotel, which was our main mode of transportation. We walked to the USS Midway, Seaport Village, the pirate ships and Horton Plaza Mall, which has a great food court. The rooms are so luxurious and I don't think I have had a better night sleep in my entire life. The staff made my boys and I feel like royalty and went over and above to make our experience a complete dream vacation. I was amazed each day we were there at the kindness of the staff. Not only did the staff accomodate us with a crib for the baby, but we also found a care bag of everything you would need to make sure my little guy was safe. The staff provided everything from a night light to safety plugs for the outlets. He even enjoyed a different rubber ducky delivered to our room each night for his bath. I have never been so overwhelmed by so much generousity and overall welcoming that we received throughout our stay. I will forever be a loyal guest and hope to return often.

“Very nice, but kind of boring”

Stayed here with girlfriend for a week as temp housing during a business move out of town. It was a very nice hotel, as all Westin Hotels are, but nothing to get too excited about. Bathrooms are a little wierd, pocket doors and no vent fan. Take a shower and it is a sauna for an hour. But the room was big, clean, comfortable, and the staff was helpful. Didn't try the restaurant, it didn't look too exciting.

“Lacks Personality”

Westin San Diego

We stayed 2 nights at the Downtown Westin during the US Open. I found this to be a very adequate hotel. The room was clean, the bed comfy, nice linens. Service Ok. I really can't say there was anything wrong with the experience. The desk clerk was alittle robotic. What I didn't like was that I found it to be a really cold experience. The hotel and staff seemed to all lack personality. I could have been at any Westin in any city, because they all look the same! Boring. I was at a Seattle Westin that was almost identical. The colors in the room were sort of a pale grey/beige. I remember years ago that staying at a Westin meant a spectacular hotel with first class service. I think that the "Starwood" hotel conglomerate have turned them all into cookie cutter chains with nothing great to rave about. Overall, nothing to write home about. I did check out the Westin in the Gaslamp area not to far away and it looked to be quite the opposite. If I ever go back to S.D, I would try that one instead.

The hotel was good. It is near Horton Plaza, Convention Center, Harbor. Bathroom is roomy, beds are very comfortable, carpet was soft and clean. Our room was across the elevator and near the ice machine but did not hear any noise during our 4 days stay. The only problem is that there are two Westin Hotels in San Diego downtown close to each other. This is on Broadway. It is easy to find at night, when you look up there is a green neon ligh stripe which outlines the top of the building. If you do not want to pay $27 parking/night, after 6 pm there are plenty of parking next to parking meters On Columbia Street for example (that is where you drop off your car if you wish to use to hotel's parking) I found several place to park my car. Usually 6 pm - 8 am you can park your car there (but wach for street cleaning which may start at 6 am on certain days). The area around the hotel is nice, clean, and safe, pleasant to walk around even at night.

“Keep Your Pants On...this place is boring and uninspired”

Westin San Diego

This joint is a ho-hum hotel that is more suited for business travelers than for couples on vacation. The service is what you'd expect from Westin, but nothing about this hotel really stood out. We were here for a formal dinner in the large conference room and I swear my shoe leather was softer then the beef. The front desk personnel were fine, the valet was fine, the room was fine. This hotel was so fine that I'm getting bored writing this review, so I'll sign off. (This place is a far cry from the Chicago Westin.)
