Marriott's Custom House

4 of 5 stars
Los Angeles

The Marriott Custom House is situated centrally. It is steps away from Fenuil Hall, The Boston Acquarium, IMAX Theater, and other points of interests. The only thing is that the hotel doesn't have a restaurant but right outside the Custom House is Fenuil Hall and there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from. My overall experience at this hotel was pretty good. I would highly recommend this hotel to families.

“Wow!!!”

Marriott's Custom House

Let me preface by saying that I NEVER write reviews because generally I'm pretty laid back and feel that hotels are hotels. But after our one night stay at the Marriott Custom House, I felt compelled to tell everyone about this fabulous hotel. First off, it is a historic landmark and easy to find because it's next to Faneuil Hall and has a super tall clock tower. Secondly, the staff - everyone from the front dest, concierge, valet parking guy and housekeeping was the nicest, warmest I've ever encountered. And finally, the room was incredible: 10 ft high (or more) ceilings, impeccably clean and spacious. We stayed on the 12th floor facing Quincy Market (room 1202). If anyone else was on the floor, we didn't hear them. Based on the reviews here regarding the noise, I called the morning of our arrival and requested (and received) a higher, quiet floor. The bed was soft and cozy and the windows in the living room were tall which made everything bright. There are two rooms connected by a hallway - one with a king sized bed and one with a sofa bed along with a 4 seat kitchen table, sink, microwave and basic kitchen stuff (plates, cups, flatwear, sponge, dishwashing liquid). And there was a coffee maker and coffee. The bathroom wasa off the hallway and contained a tub and shower combo that was so clean, I felt like I should clean our bathroom at home. There was plenty of room for me, my husband and 5 yr old. They had cookies at the front desk at our arrival which was a nice treat. I was worried we might get a Marriott Vacation Club pitch but was surprised that we never received one - but that's because the room speaks for itself. We usually stay at a Starwood hotel (Westin) but this was so far better, it was off the charts. Kudos to whoever runs the hotel. It makes me want to stay at a Marriott every time we're on vacation.

“As wonderful as I had hoped it would be”

Marriott's Custom House

We recently stayed at the Marriott Custom House to celebrate our anniversary. I was able to book a week's stay thanks to a certificate through II which made the vacation very affordable. I had admired photos of this historic building/ vacation club in the very heart of Boston and had read many reviews. There are only about 85+ rooms, all of which are one bedroom suites, in the entire building. The suites were clean, very well appointed, the huge bed was wonderful. Everything was in good working order. Each floor has only 4-5 suites. The open observation deck on the 26th floor affords an outstanding view of Boston and the river. You can view the mechanism of the clock which faces all four directions. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market are one block away. The staff was helpful and kind. I would highly recommend this location.
Be prepared, parking fees are high, the large windows are drafty in the winter, and there are not many "resort" activities for families. Bring your own coffee because they only provide the first pot. But ,Hey, you've got all of Boston at your fingertips and just a few steps away. We did a great combination of resturant dining and take out from Quincy market brought back to the suite. Enjoy. We certainly did.

“A Gem in the heart of Boston”

Marriott's Custom House

5 of 5 stars
Massachusetts

Every March we usually stay at the Marriott on the wharf in Boston. It is a great time of year - the weather can be everything from the beginning of spring to seemingly like the dead of winter. When making reservations one year we were told they were sold out - and we were offered accommodations at the Marriott Custom House instead.

I had visited the Custom House many decades ago as this is where various Federal offices were. I was more than surprised to hear that it had been turned into a vacation property and hotel rooms.

You couldn't have a better tourist address in Boston: right outside your door are the historic Faneuil Hall and markets and within a short walk plenty of restaurants, bars, etc. Even better now that the interstate highway is underground here.

The Custom House offers valet parking - but I believe your car is then taken over to the Marriott on the wharf. I'm not sure what the current price for parking is but I would expect that you could buy a good meal for whatever it costs. That was about the only downside to staying there.

Accommodations are not just rooms - they are complete living suites, like what a nice condo in the centre of a city would offer. Sometimes it's nice to have a living room to relax in with a nice bottle of wine on a raw spring evening! At one time the custom house was the tallest building in Boston - of course that is no longer the case. Still, the views are quite good. And as an extra treat, guests can go up to the outside balcony near the top of the tower.

The Marriott Custom House is a bit pricy but given the location, amenities and uniqueness of the facility it is well worth it. We'll be back.

“Fab!!”

Marriott's Custom House

We normally stay at the Long Wharf or the Logan Hilton but decided this time to try something different. Boy, are we glad we did. We found the reception staff really friendly and eager to help. The Valet was fantastic, bringing our car around and dealing with all our luggage. When we got to our room, we weren't disappointed. The views were fantastic and the suite was great. One night is not long enough in this fabulous location. We will definitely go back!
