“Lovely Stay”

Agree with all other comments. Great historical hotel in a great location. Very smart public areas but definitely not stuffy service.

The room was clean and very comfortable. I found the size typical for older hotels of this kind in large US cities.

Boston is an expensive city to stay in so I can understand the comments about value for money from US visitors. For us Brit's the weak dollar helps !

I was aware of the building work and they do start promptly at 8am so wouldn't do for those who want to sleep in.

“sweet and great location but no modern amenities”

Omni Parker House

4 of 5 stars
Ventura, California

This hotel REALLY , REALLY depends on what you are looking for as a traveler to Boston. Here is the good:

1) Centrally loacted to everything within walking distance (Freedom Trail, etc). This hotel is the heart of the city. Unless you are going somewhere really outside of the city, you will not need a taxi. Gotta love a hotel with a good location!
2) Friendly service everywhere. Fast check-ins, fast valet, great conceriege, great servers, etc.
3) The inside is historically beautiful. Very pretty old, dark wood. Charming. But old. Yes...old. Did i mention old?
4) The Parker Bar, restaurant and Last Hoorah bar (all located in the hotel) are great and upscale. This is an unscale hotel. No teenagers or little kids. We saw two weddings in the hotel. This is a good wedding location. JFK proposed to Jackie O in this hotel. That says alot about the charm huh?
5) Housecleaning service is outstanding. Best i have seen in a long time and i travel ALOT.
6) Room service was outstanding (fast, good, reasonable).
7) Good gym in the hotel and a Starbucks. Yes, in the hotel.
8) Bed is comfortable. Not the best that i have seen, but not the worst. I slept fine. No complaints.
9) Lots of nice extras, like good shampoo, lotion, starch, etc. These are replinshed each day by housekeeping.

Here is the bad.
1) This is the oldest working hotel in the U.S. That means a few things. The rooms are smaller than hotels that we are used to. The t.v. is a tiny little t.v., not the huge ones that we are used to in modern hotels.
2) The bathroom is very tiny and my husband and i could not be in there at the same time (i weigh 100 pounds and 5'2). This would not be a problem if there was a cheap mirror somewhere in the room, but there was not. I wish the Omni Parker would spring for a cheap full length mirror that could be in the closet or somewhere!! It was very hard getting ready each day and not looking in a mirror. Omni- buy a plastic full length mirror. Us ladies need to look at our outfits before we go out!
3) The rooms do not have safes. We like to have safes.
4) You are in the heart of a big city. This hotel is noisy. You hear cars, people, whistles, etc 24 hours per day. If you want peace and quiet, this is NOT the hotel for you.
5) I thought the towels were a bit rough and could be nicer for this expensive of a hotel.
6) Within 1 hour of arrival, our main light bulb burnt out. No problem. We called down to the front to get someone to fix it. 2 days later, no one has come. My husband changed the bulb himself with one in the bathroom.
7) Again, this is an old hotel. Small bathtub that you cant use. And so tingy that you would not anyways.
8) Hard (even) for hotel staff to get me a taxi. I waited for quite awhile for hotel staff to hail a cab.
9) This hotel is underoing remodeling on the outside only. The WHOLE hotel is enclosed in scaffolding. You cannot open your window or a construction worker will be looking at you. Literally. My husband was caught off guard naked. Yes, they work Mon-Fri from 8-5. Very noisy, my fellow trip advisor friends. Ask when the remodel is complete before booking your stay.

I do not know if i would stay here again. I loved the location dearly. So close to everything. But i am getting a bit spoiled for my need to have a big room and modern amenities. I hope that helps all. This hotel is not cheap either. We paid for a room with two beds from Thu-Mon and it was roughly 380.00(or more on the weekend) per night. We stayed in room 416.

Ask yourself: Location or Modern Amenities? Then you have your answer.
Boston Tips:
* Do not miss the North End. Get a map. Look for it. It is not to be missed.
* Can be difficult to get a taxi on the weekend. Give yourself a bit of time if you need to hail one.
* Bring walking shoes. This is a walking city.
*Subway felt a bit unsafe. Take a taxi if you are alone.
*Do not miss Salem. Worth the 30 minute drive. Wonderful town at Halloween time. Great for kids. A huge carnival. Have your kids (or yourself) dressed in Halloween attire. Everyone else!

“Friendly Historic Elegance at The Parker House”

Omni Parker House

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco

This hotel is elegant, stately, and very comfortable.
After a tiring flight across the country and a quick cab ride from Logan, we were very pleased with the treatment by the fast and friendly staff. Everyone from the doorman, to the front desk, to the bellman was friendly and attentive. Were were travel weary so ordered room service the first night. A sumptuous meal of outstanding chowder, classic baked scrod, a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and delicious Boston Cream Pie. Yum!
As you can read from other reviews, the location to historic sites and local transportation is excellent.
The bed has to be the most comfortable we have ever experienced.
Caveat.... as you will also see from other reviews, the rooms are small. If you need space, go for the larger rooms or suites. We absolutely loved the one bedroom suite.
If you're looking for sports bars, all you can eat buffets, and gigantic rooms at bargain prices, this is not for you. If you want history, elegance, good location and fine service in Boston, Parker House has to be one of the best games in town.

“Early wake-up call!”

Omni Parker House

We stayed at the Parker House for 3 nights in late September. Forget the scaffolding on the outside - the interior is just great - including the main flower arrangement (neat idea having flower heads under water!). We were on the 4th floor overlooking the adjacent construction work which kicked-off promptly at 6.30 am each morning. Lucky for us we had just flown-in from the UK so were already awake. There were some housekeeping issues in that towels weren't replaced one day leaving us short but overall we liked the old-world charm of the place and thought the full breakfast buffet at $18 (or £9) a pretty good deal - it really set you up for a day's exploring. Yes - room price was high - but aren't they all in that part of Boston for equivalent hotels - and people roll their eyes when you say you stayed there! If you are from the UK then it's worth a punt whilst you can still get 2 bucks to the pound.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the Omni Parker House. We appreciate that you were able to look past the construction noise to find the beauty and charm of our historic hotel. Construction outside of the hotel should be complete by December 2007. In the meantime, we make all efforts to accommodate guests that may be sensitive to the noise in a quiet area of the hotel.

“nice but pricey”

Omni Parker House

I recently stayed at the Omni Parker House while in Boston for a medical conference. I loved the historic value of the hotel - the lobby is stunning and Parker's bar is dark and snug, just as it was 100 years ago. The rooms are small but this is to be expected in any historic building, and it really is in the middle of everything, just a block from the T stop at Government Center. Unfortunately the facade of the hotel was covered in scaffolding which did detract from the ambiance. The staff was very courteous and helpful. However, I am glad I had a discount from the conference - my rather small, plain room normally went for $400/night which I would consider over the top - after all, you just walk through a lobby, not stay in it for any length of time. If you have the means (especially to get one of the executive suites) and want the experience, this is a great hotel. If you are on any sort of budget or wish to have large rooms with spacious bathrooms, this may not be the spot for you.
