“Good option in pricey Boston”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

4 of 5 stars

I stayed at the Bulfinch in May 2008 for four nights. I found the location of the hotel to be a bit removed from the main action of the town, but close enough to walk to Faniuel Hall and Quincy Market in about five minutes. That was actually a great thing since it seemed to be a bit quieter in the hotel, making it easier to sleep.

I arrived at the hotel a bit too early for the 3:30 p.m. check-in but the hotel gladly held my bags while I searched for lunch in the area. It's only a short walk to the pubs that line the streets leading to the Boston Garden. The personnel at the hotel seemed friendly and helpful. When I returned to the hotel to check-in, the process was quick and efficient. The small lobby requires some manuevering if you have big bags. A nice touch - there's water dispensers next to the elevator, great refresh on a hot day.

The rooms are small, but it is a city hotel in a really cool building. The style is a bit modern, with some retro touches. Because of the architecture of the building, my room had a funky, long hallway-shaped bathroom. The bathroom was nice, marble counters and good amenities. My bath only had a stand-up shower, which is fine for me, since I don't normally take baths in hotels. Good water pressure in the shower too! The bed was comfortable and the reading lights were adequate. The only complaints I had was there was no closet, just a wardrobe and more importantly to me, no luggage rack and that the air conditioner unit blew directly on you if you were working at the desk, which seems like I'm reaching to complain about something!

I did not eat in the hotel restaurant so I can't comment on that. But I did really like this hotel. It was small enough to be friendly and it was only a long block from the Blue Line T stop (to go to and from the airport). I walked to my conference about a mile away and got to pass right by some of the historic sights in Boston. I would definitely stay in the Bulfinch again.

“Very nice”

The room was everything advertized, clean, comfortable and above average in quality. We booked through hotwire so didn't know what were were getting but were very very pleased. It's not really close to all the attractions (except the Garden) but it was an easy walk to the Italian District and the Market area

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — great price with hotwire, very clean and well appointed
    • Disliked — not quite in the heart of the action

“nice location, small room”

My husband, son and I stayed at the Bulfinch for a weekend. The room was indeed quite small and ours happened to be right next to the elevator. I almost requested another room, but I thought we could survive one weekend and we did, although we heard everything. I attribute that more to oblivious people rather than a problem with the hotel itself. We truly were tripping over each other and our suitcases, but not a big deal because who wants to spend a lot of time in a hotel in Boston?

Everyone we encountered from the staff was very helpful and friendly, including giving parking information, restaurant suggestions and directions. Parking was about 3 blocks away and was $25 per day with no in and out privileges. Since we had already paid for an essentially useless car rental, we walked everywhere.

We did not try the restaurant, but the menu looked good. We ate at Johhnies (very close by) for dinner to watch a college baseball game. There is a Dunkin Donuts and Au Bon Pain close by for breakfast. One nice touch that nobody has mentioned is the coolers of water with lemon or lime in the lobby...wonderful after walking around Boston all day!

The location is nicely located for all the typical touristy stuff....North End, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and the Science Museum. All in all a great hotel in a great location at a great price.

“Great Staff, Stained Linens!”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

4 of 5 stars
Boston, MA

I stayed at this hotel with my mother for 3 nights. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly. I would agree with the other reviews that the rooms were on the small side, but they were very nice. The location is nice as well, it's near the TD Banknorth Garden and walking distance to MGH, Beacon Hill, and the Boston Commons (if you are up for a good walk). The only complaint I would have was that the linens were dirty... The first night we stayed in the hotel we were exhausted and hadn't noticed, but when we woke up in the morning realized there was chocolate on the sheets and pillow cases. We immediately requested the linens to be changed, and the hotel staff was very helpful in making sure that was taken care of. However, even though our sheets were replaced with clean ones, they were replaced with stained ones. While I was confident the linens were clean, having stained linens is not necessarily the most comfortable or relaxing.

“Perfect little hotel”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles
Jun 10, 2008

The Bullfinch is a perfectly located hotel, right in the middle of the city, and beautifully appointed. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the price was much more reasonable than larger, chain hotels in the area. The rooms were a little on the small side, but that seemed a small price to pay for a great hotel. It even has its own restaurant and room service.
