My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Onyx Hotel last weekend. The service at the hotel was outstanding from the front desk, concierge, bartenders, etc.
Checking in, we were greeted by the friendly front desk staff. They informed us that our room was ready and we would be located on the 9th floor. Once we arrived at our room we were greeted with a glass of green m&m's (it was st. patrick's day weekend). We were also provided with a note stating that our requests for champagne flutes and newspapers were made. We were also happy to see a complimentary bottle of wine, nice touch. The rooms are not large but comfortable enough for 2 people. The mini bar was fully stocked with beverages and snacks. FYI, bring your own bottled water if you don't feel like paying $4-5 a bottle. They also provide AVEDA products shampoo, conditioner and lotion ( ladies will appreciate that)
The Ruby Room restaurant/bar was a great place to unwind. Again not a huge place but suffiecient enough. We had the breakfast buffet there one morning. It was $13 p/p plus auto 18% gratuity. There were probably cheaper places for breakfast in the area, but it was snowing and we did not feel like venturing out that early. We also had the handcut russet potato chips with blue cheese (delicious) and some cocktails before dinner one night. They offer a complimentary beer/wine hour with cheese and crackers nightly. This was great and a chance to sample some different wines and talk with some interesting people staying at the hotel. It runs from 5-6 p.m.
The location of the hotel is perfect if you are going to see an event at the TD Banknorth. We had Celtics tickets and were able to walk to and from with no problem. We also had dinner in the North End which was walking distance.
Can't say enough good things about the Onyx and its helpful staff. We can't wait to return. If there was one negative thing to write, it would probably be about the fitness facility. It was really tiny. The equipment was pretty new but, it was just small with a couple of treadmills and some free weights.
I would reccommend the Onyx for a great stay in Boston.
