“Excellent Nine Zero”

Nine Zero Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

Mar 24, 2008

Really enjoyed my stay at the Nine Zero. Great location, beautiful room, very good service. The free wine reception from 5 - 6 each evening was a nice way to wind down and meet some of the other guests. Would recommend a stay here.

I was expecting great things from this hotel having read the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor but felt slightly disappointed with the room in particular

I can't fault the staff: courteous and friendly (like all Bostonians!) but the room was a bit down at heel. It was a large room with two beds in it on the 7th floor but the view was off a back alley and there was construction work going on - although not much the hotel can do, it was quite noisy.

The beds were, as everyone else testifies to, extremely comfortable with soft linen and to die for pillows/duvet so a good sleep is guaranteed. However, the sheet on my bed had a big hole in it, which i wouldn't expect of any hotel, let alone a 5* star one. There were also black scuff marks along the walls. I would have thought staff would have tried to get rid of these...!

Also, Kimpton Hotel Group (owners of Nine Zero) claim to be very considerate of the environment and ask that you reuse your towels rather than have them replaced every day, which we duly tried to but the maids kept replacing them with new ones!

We hired a couple of in room films, which at £5 each wasnt too bad and they were all very current (some not out in the UK) but there is a huge cinema just a couple of blocks away. As someone else said in room food is damn expensive by the time you've added on a service charge and tax.

Having said all that, it's a very central hotel, great for accessing the Freedom Trail and the shops (go to Newbury st for great boutique shops!), and I would stay again so it certainly wasn't a bad experience. Oh, and they have a 'drinks reception' at 5pm every day - free wine, which can't be sniffed at. If you want to get out for a drink there is a good bar with great food called Silvertone just one or two streets down from the hotel (matthew mcconeghy was filming there when we stayed!).

it might be worth upgrading to a suite when you're there (if you can afford it). We gota v good deal with Expedia - return flights from Scotland and 4 nights in nine zero for £500 - so shop around.

Nine Zero Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Mar 14, 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights en route to New England for a skiing holiday, and overall, it was okay. I'm probably a little disappointed in it and maybe had higher expectations based on the reviews here. The hotel is modern, but the room we had was a little small, a little scuffed round the edges, had a lot of traffic noise, had a Queen bed rather than a King and did not have a bath tub, only a shower.

The lack of bath probably wouldn't bother some people, but as we were doing a lot of walking/sightseeing and fancied a soak to rejuvenate the feet and legs, we asked for a room with a tub after the first night. The staff were very good and immediately changed us to a slightly higher floor room, with a tub, and strangely about twice the space although the room types were supposedly the same. This room actually proved to be much better and was quiet as it was at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately as someone else pointed out, as it was low down it was actually dark the whole day, even on the glorious sunny days that we had. The safe in this room was locked when we got in, so we asked for it to be opened for us and the staff said it would be done right away. It wasn't. We asked again the next day and were told again it would be done. After coming back to the room late that night, we found it still hadn't been done. No big deal, but as we were checking out the next day, it wasn't worth asking again.

On the plus side, the staff are genuinely pleasant, the location is really good, the wine reception is a nice touch and the hotel offers free wi-fi.

There was nothing that bad about the hotel and nothing that great either. It is a little too focused on style, and while the staff are pleasant, the service is a little hit or miss. Based on this visit, I wouldn't stay at Nine Zero again.

We just returned from what should have been a week in Boston, but some bad weather in Europe delayed our arrival by a day.
Our stay at The Nine Zero was very good. Our room on the 16th floor was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and shower was excellent. Can't speak highly enough of the staff who were all fantastic. Scott & Thomas on the concierge desk were very knowledgeable. The wine hour was a nice touch allowing us to unwind after a hard day shopping.
Didn't eat dinner at the KO restaurant but did go for breakfast one morning which was pretty good.
We'd certainly stay at the Nine Zero again.

Nine Zero Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

M partner and I took a quick weekend trip to Boston for Valentines Day. We have stayed at a few Kimpton Properties in the past and decided to check out Nine Zero. It was a good hotel but I didn't necessarily feel as if it was as nice as some of their other properties. Our room was a nice size for a hotel downtown as was the bathroom. Not too small...not overly spacious. The mini bar was very nice and gave us the opportunity to mix martinis. Prior to arriving at the hotel I received an email asking if there was anything I would need prior to my arrival. I am part of the Kimpton Loyalty program. I replied back that it would be great to receive some restaurant suggestions. I never heard back from anyone. If you don't plan on responding to requests genereated by YOU.....then I suggest you not send out emails. Overall our stay was good. But I am not certain if I would stay there again if I visited Boston.
