“Solid, not great, Marriott”

Boston Marriott Copley Place

3 of 5 stars

Good stay (late March 08) at this Back Bay hotel. I was here for five nights for a professional conference. As Mrs. G is in the same profession, we both participated, and had Kiddo along as well. I’ve stayed here before, but it’s been 5+ years.

Our conference drew about 1000 people. All meetings and our exhibit hall were on-site. Hotel handled our conference, and a couple of smaller ones, effortlessly, and you really didn’t notice the size of the hotel.

Lobby looking a little dated now, but certainly well maintained. Elevators, in spite of there being, what, a dozen?, are painfully slow. Excellent sushi restaurant, with staff that happily provided loads of edamame for Kiddo. Arigato gozaimasu, guys! Our conference included a lot of food/drinks, so did not spend time in lobby restaurant or bar. Many restaurants in the adjacent malls, though.

I’m Silver with Marriott, and successfully begged for one of the corner rooms mentioned in other postings. Yes, much larger, and had great space for Kiddo’s rollaway. We had Concierge Lounge access, which is helpful for morning beverages and munchies.

The room was an ok mix of Marriott 1.0 and 2.0. They still had the Desk That Works, which is great when I’m on solo travel, but not helpful with multiple folks in the room. The bed was the new Revive bedding, which was nice, and the bathroom vanity/counter/mirror was new. Carpet, wallpaper, armoire with tube tv, all still waiting patiently for their kiss at the pig. A small fridge was brought in for Kiddo’s stuff, and no charge, so that was nice.

Internet is wired, and strong… happy here. There is a Starbucks in the lobby, but which serves TWO different malls, so continually busy, with folks lined up. There is a Legal Seafood in one of the malls, which is one of the best reasons available for visiting Boston.

The grocery store across the street was great.

Front desk was crisp both on check-in and –out. .

You know, maybe I’ve been staying in too many nice hotels outside the US lately. This was a solid, uneventful stay at a clean, well maintained Marriott. There was, however, no “wow” to it. No turndown chocolates, no extra effort, nothing to make me feel that my business was appreciated. So, for a US hotel, it probably warrants a full 3.5 rating, but I just can’t give it a 4.0. To be clear… I’d happily return here. Would be a great location if I was touristing Boston!

“Not worth the exorbitant pirce”

$429 a night is ridiculous. With $45 in taxes, this hotel has become a $500 a night stay. Rooms were fine, room service was okay, but the price really turned me off. Positive is that it's within walking distance of my client. Plus.

“Excellent conference hotel”

Boston Marriott Copley Place

This hotel is huge, so don't look for personalised service. All staff was however very efficient and friendly.

My room on the 17th floor was clean and comfortable, although housekeeping didn't clean carefully behind the curtains. The bathroom is a little small for a hotel of this standard, but comfortable and clean.

There is little choice of restaurants right in the hotel, but via both shopping centers (connected without having to cross the street) you easily get to nearby (seafood and other) restaurants.

The only negative points are :
- some waiting for the elevators
- the wired internet is rather expensive

“could make a better choice”

Boston Marriott Copley Place

This property is in serious need of a face lift. The price for the tiny, dirty room is the same as many newer and cleaner rooms in the city. Do not be fooled into thinking that Marriott takes "care" of all of the properties the same. This hotel has bad food, slow elevatros and old carpet! YUCK. not a good introduction to Boston. Copley is a good "location" but Boston is not hard to get around. transportation is easy to get. Stay in another property- trust me. this is for real I just returned from this hotel last night.

“Great Location, Solid Hotel”

Boston Marriott Copley Place

4 of 5 stars
Chicago, Illinois
May 15, 2008

Stayed at the Marriott Copely Place for a business meeting. Was there by myself thus I don't have a great feel for how this property would work for tourist or a family vacation.

Pros:

1. Nice rooms with large functional bathrooms.

2. Great bed

3. Good location - in Boston business district but close to many good restraunts and shopping.

4. Hotel sports bar (Champions) stays open late for Boston.

Cons

1. Not real close to North End or Boston Commons but this is Boston so nothing is really that far away.

2. Parking is VERY expensive.

3. Elevators can be slow during peak times.

    • Liked — Good location, nice beds
    • Disliked — Expensive parking and internet connection
