Myself and two friends stayed at a suite in the Copley Marriott while we went about our Christmas shopping. Even though it was one of the busiest times for the hotel, we did show up 3 hours early and the quickly brought us to our room which had been waiting for us for several hours (not too often you can book into a hotel earlier than requested). The hotel was amazing clean, pool was clean, restaurant was clean, upscale and they had live entertainment (piano player who was quite good). The only thing I would suggest is to stay with what you know on the menu. I was taking by the small portions in relation to the price. I paid $45US for a glass of wine and 6 pieces of cheese thinking it was going to be something that could tie me over for a bit. I recommend going to the Hard Rock Cafe. We ate at an Italian restaurant (can't remember the name but it was the only Italian restaurant on Clinton Street) a few doors down as well which was also amazing (probably the best meal I had while I was in Boston). The Cambridge Galleria is a must for people who shop. Also Macy's. We lucked out because Filenes was closing its doors (because Macys purchased them) so we found some spectacular deals. Also, check out the Quincy Market, some sporting events, they have great museums, China Town. All in all The Copley was the place to stay because it was so central to everything and the service was superb.
