This place is spartan - reminds me of a college room. I stayed because it was only $60 a night (that includes breakfast but I left early so didn't try it). I spent almost no time in the room but did take my laptop to the mezzanine floor where there's free internet. At 1 point I went into the phone kiosk on the ground floor to use skype to speak to my husband as the free wireless doesn't extend very far up the building. The place is old & I've stayed in far nicer places but the price difference between this & the hotels I looked at was enormous so I think for $60 it's fine. They have an ironing room & a sitting area that's OK as the room's aren't designed for spending much time in. If you're looking for just a bed & nothing else it's good value.

I have stayed at the Berkeley twice and would do so again.

The Berkeley reminds me of a typical college dormitory: basic, minimally furnished rooms; shared bathrooms, cafeteria in the basement, and a piano and TV in the recreation area. Like shared bathrooms in college dorms, the bathrooms here have some of the same annoyances-- i.e., hair in the shower drains, no paper towels or soap--but at least they're pretty clean and they don't smell. Since all I was interested in was a place where I could stash my luggage and sleep, I didn't mind.

Breakfast on the weekends is a great deal! You can stuff yourself on what the kitchen serves.

The front desk staff is professional and courteous.

This place is convenient to the "T" (Boston's subway system)--the Back Bay Orange Line station is four blocks away.

Budget accommodation is difficult to come by in Boston. I doubt you could get a better deal for a private room--$60 per night, no tax!

Very neat and clean shared facilities, clean and adequate doublerooms, generous breakfast. Friendly staff. Safe. Great location with walking distance to almost everything.

Very nice to stay at a place where you meet "ordinary people" - not only tourists - and also contribute to YWCAs most honourable work. It is a bit old, but it is well kept and a very good budget choice.

the hostel was absolute fine. I stayed there 2 nights and would go back every time. Staff and people there are very friendly. It's a good neighborhood and I like my time there. In comparison to other hostels I experienced is it acceptable.
