What a marvelous experience. I traveled to San Francisco with my 83 year old mother in May 08. The city is perfect for any age visitor. Beleive it or not the weather was fantastic! We happened to be there at the time of a heat wave 85 - 90 degrees everyday for five consecutive days. Stayed at the Hotel 480 near Union Square. I never thought a four day stay in a hotel room could be as enjoyable as this. We booked a junior suite - for the extra space. The room more than met our expectations. It was spacious with a beautiful view of the city. But to the city -charming, classy, eclectic, romantic, and definitely easy to navigate. Many modes of public transportation from the cable cars to trolleys to buses. Of course cabs are available but public transportation offers a real taste of the city. Be sure to visit the Ferry building (offers service to Sausalito - the beauty of Sausalito will blow your mind) and a farmers market on weekends, the Presidio, Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39 to see the seals bask in the sun, Haight Ashbury (a real kick). If time permits spend a day in Napa Valley - Sterling Vinyards offers a tram ride and wine tasting for $20 - good deal. "Stinking Rose" is a great restaurant in North Beach section of SF. Great Italian food. This was well worth the cross-country flight as we are east coast residents. ENJOY!
