In looking for a one night stay on Maui close to the airport due to evening arrival, before our rental home was available the next day, I was very discouraged until I found the listing for Wailuku Guesthouse. Maureen was very accomodating to us. The rate was far less than any hotel I could find, and most other B&B's would not let us stay for just one night. By the time we got our rental car, it was 9 p.m. and our key was waiting for us just as she said. We were able to climb into the big king size bed (2 adults and 1 10 year old child do fit!) in the cozy air conditioned Mill Room and go right to sleep. In the morning we strolled around and met Maureen & family along with their cat and birds. Maureen recommended Fran's down the road for breakfast which was a local diner and SO GOOD that we also had our final meal on the island a week later there and brought along with my brother & his wife from NY and my parents from Kansas. She also steered us to a great swimming beach, and my son and I enjoyed a lovely dip in their saltwater pool. I'd much rather stay here than any hotel. Good rates, clean, friendly, good central location, and these locals are not afraid to share their favorite spots with mainlanders.
Mucho Mahalo!

“Good for the budget”

We stayed in the Mill Room. Although it was small, it was clean and neat. It comes with a/c and the bed was comfortable. The hostess was couteous and we were borrowed the beach chairs and ice chest. The downside is that there was a young child in the house so whenever he cries, you can hear him from the room. It was upstairs so good luck if you have big luggages. It is small but since we spent most of our time out and about we really just needed a place to crash. Wailuku is near the airport, Iao Valley, and Haleakala but relatively far from west and south Maui (Lahaina and Wailea). I would recommend this place over a hotel if you are on a budget but would recommend against it if you need space to sprawl.

“Not quite what I expected”

Mine may be the only not-too-enthusiastic review of the Wasabi Room of the Wailuku Guest House. Our mistake may have been to try to fit three adults into the room. Not a good idea. There really is not a good place for the futon pad. We stayed two nights and never saw the friendly Maureen described in the other reviews. I tried to contact her on our last morning with some questions, but she didn't answer the door or return my cell phone call. Room felt a bit dingey .. carpets could use a good cleaning. Bottom line, it's a bit of a quite small stuffy basement room without very good air circulation. You see a lot of legs going by as others go to and from their rooms and hear the cars start up that are parked just on the other side of the wall. Wish I could be more positive, but the experience wasn't great.

We really enjoyed our stay.
The people were wonderful hosts, and they give everything you need. Snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, coolers, etc.. the breakfast was great too. Every morning they had great coffee, two large platters of fresh fruit, all different types of cereal, breads and also bagels available. They provide snacks and juice during the day. They have a computer to send emails home to family. Each room has a big screen TV (with DVD player), a hot tub, and your own bathroom. They have 100's of DVD's in their library.
It was great and we will definitly stay there again.

“The grounds were very comfortable”

The Wailuku guesthouse was a wonderful centrally located clean place to stay. My husband and I brought our 9 month old daughter with us. Maureen and Declan were wonderful hosts and the grounds were beautiful. The rates are more than reasonable. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short because our daughter was teething. We look forward to going back again.
