The Royal Lahaina was outstanding in every respect. The desk manager greeted us by name when we pulled up. They took us directly to our room overlooking the beach (note: the higher floors are by far the best views). The room was immaculate. It had been remodeled with beautiful dark woods, louvered balcony doors and bathroom/room divider, matching furniture, great linens, etc. The balcony overlooked the beach looking north and west with a wonderful view. Even with a nightly luau nearby, the room itself was remarkably quiet and could be kept very dark for late sleepers. We found a gift of champagne in the refrigerator to welcome us for our honeymoon. The restaurant overlooks the pool and beach, thus the location was great. The breakfast buffet was always very tasty (beware lest birds--inside and out--eat from your plate if you step away from the table). Dinner was also very good. Good snorkeling just a few hundred yards down the beach (either direction). We loved our stay at the Royal Lahaina and would recommend it highly.
A WORD OF ADVICE: avoid buying ANYTHING from the poolside activities desk as they charge $15/day for one set of snorkel equipment--when you can get it for $1.50 nearby--and their people will try their best to sell you ridiculously expensive sunglasses, snorkel trips, sunscreen, etc.
