All of the Condos in Kahana and Napalii were built in the 1970's. Some are more updated than others, but they are all pretty similar. The Kuleana has a nice location, good parking and a small beach. I did a Timeshare exchange. The 30 Timeshare units are furnished the same. They have tile floors and new appliances. The Queen bed seems small and the Murphy bed is very hard. The one piece plastic tub and shower has seen better days. But it is clean and well maintained. The pool is big and nicely heated. I have included photos taken from my ground floor (#307) unit. I could see whales from my unit. I would grab my binoculars and run across the lawn to the Common Area for a better look. I met other people and talked about our adventures. After two days, I overlooked the thin towels and furnishings and was glad to be at the Kuleana. The back buildings have a lot of parking lot noise and sounds from other units was noticable. But everyone was nice and tried to keep their noise to a minimum. I like being in West Maui. The Kuleana was a good trade for me.

We booked thru vrbo. Unit 616, it was very nice, super close to the water, at most 25 feet. The condo itself was spacious enough for 2 people. 1 bedroom/1bath. Sparkling clean, with all amenities if you wanted to cook, even a grill on the lanai. There were books to borrow in the lobby, plus games, tennis, and a huge pool. Those were the pluses, the minues were that the beach was tiny, the renters/owners older, the walls very thin. (we were in a 2nd floor condo) We quickly learned to walk in very quietly so that the 3rd floor condo people wouldn't blast their stereo to drown out our noise. After that, it was pretty peaceful. Plus, Kahana is a long way from Wailea, where the nicer weather happened to be during our vacation. Our condo was pretty up to date but it really needed a new bed, and she did say she was going to purchase a new one but that didn't help us. Altogether, I would stay again with this owner.

I have stayed in my unit 6 times in the past 2 years and have never heard loud music.I must admit I have found it very peaceful and serene except for the sounds of the waves in front and in the bedroom.I found it very helpful to fall asleep with the waves in the back ground.
I have replaced the queen size bed with a Cal king.
I have free internet access as well as free calling to the main land.
Plus free whale watching from the lanai because they come very close to my unit in the winter months.I have seen mom and calf several times with the escort whale close by.
The view is 270degrees with about 25 feet away from the water. You really can't beat this location on West Maui.
You may also fly in to West Maui airport { closes at 6 pm due to no night lights and not noisy at all} and just walk down the Akahele rd to the Kuleana.Your own private airport so close!!!!!!!!!!
Hope to hear from you soon.

“Oceanfront , Turtles and Tremendous Value”

Kuleana is situated in a great location especially it's fantastic oceanfront. We had the opportunity to swim daily with sea turtles and a fantastic array of tropical fish. The ocean is no more than 50 yards from any room at the Kuleana. I thought I wouldn't survive without AC but found the trade winds were both cooling and relaxing. Beautiful nightly sunsets with views of Lanai and Molokai. The grounds have a great variety of beautifully groomed tropical plants. The pool was never crowded always clean and well cared for. We had 3 adults in our group. We found the room to be very comfortable. Most rooms have both garden and ocean views. It is not the Hyatt but for less than half the price it is a tremendous value.

“Would not return to this resort!!”

Traded a week with RCI for this condo. They say the resort is in Lahania but it is west of Kanappali Beach and closer to Kapalua. Our condo was unit #511 which was a 1 bedroom with a murphy bed in the living room. The units are not air-conditioned so you have to run fans. We slept in the murphy bed because there was no television in the bedroom. Additionally, there was so much road noise in the bedroom it was impossible to sleep. The last day of our stay they were trimming trees with chain saws and running chip crushers outside the bedroom window at 8 a.m. To add insult two nights during our stay security knocked on our door asking us to turn the television down because someone in the building was complaining!! We are not deaf nor are we noisy people. We also forgot to put our parking permit on the mirror one evening and had a huge sticker on our car the next morning telling us if we do it again our car will be towed. My overall impression is that the residents do as much as they can to discourage vacationing visitors from returning. On a positive note, the grounds are beautiful and impeccably maintained. Pool and beach are small. There were no laundry facilities in the unit. They are coin operated in the basement.

“Old and outdated”

We rented 4 units for 5 days (4 couples) and were expecting the units to be similar. Wrong some units had updated floors, kitchens and bathrooms, newer furniture etc. and the unit myself and another couple were in units 711 & 722 were old, dirty and had bugs in the kitchen.
It was a very nice location, nice grounds, no beach to speak of and I feel very overpriced for what we received. Would look in the same area again, but for something newer.
