“Excellent quality food and great location!”

My husband and I took a date last Friday night at this great beach restaurant on Napili Bay, next to the Napili Shores resort. Easy parking and a very pretty walk to the restaurant, we immensely enjoyed ourselves. Not having a reservation (though they are suggested if you don't have much time), we sat outside on the deck to be greeted by our courteous waitress.
We don't drink, and it did leave out a lot of choices for the entrees (contrary to popular opinion, the fact is that 5% of the alcohol in cooking does remain).
What we did have, however, was AMAZING!
My husband went for the Sea Bass. It was a superbly prepared fish served in a gourmet manner. My choice was the Cioppino..basically an ocean medley of lobster, jumbo scallops, huge mussels, ahi and various veggies in a tomato based stew and a large serving of pasta similar to Angel Hair. Fun to see and eat, we also partook of the two kind of European breads in the bread basket.
We ate watching the sun set over the bay as Honu (green sea turtles) popped their heads out of the water in the bay where we'd been snorkeling earlier.
Very romantic, we were also witness to a traditional Hawaiian wedding ceremony. When the couple kissed, we all clapped for them. It was quite endearing.
Had we not been so stuff, we would have ordered dessert--the dessert menu looked very good. :)
As the sun set, the tiki torches were lit by a Hawaiian dressed in traditional garb and the candles on our tables added to the atmosphere.
It was truly the most romantic dinner we'd ever experienced in our 13 years together.
Entrees all cost between $30 to $32 dollars, though they do have daily specials. The special while we were there was one pound of King Crab legs for $28.
A wonderful aspect is that you can just come and eat off the beach(as long as you are sand free and covered up (a towel is accepted). There are NO dinner jacket or tie restaurant requirements anywhere on the islands. It's very laid back.

“Best laid back, relaxing restaurant in West Maui!”

What a joy to find a restaurant that is "hidden", no traffic, great food, and the best views!

We have been here many times before, and each time we remark; what a joy not fighting the traffic and hurried pace on Front Street!

This restaurant is located in Napili and is part of the Napili Kai Beach Resort. They have condos you can rent, if you desire. Awesome beach. Park on the street and go swimming here. Nice for the kids and you!

After parking in the front lot, you have a bit of a walk through the resort grounds. Lucky you! Take advantage of the unusual large hibiscus and other flowering plants they have on property. Finally, you happen upon the awesome beach and restaurant facing it. Talk about "Maui's best kept secret"! Sure beats the parking problem and frenzied pace of Front Street!!!

This year, no problem getting the ringside seating closest to the ocean. This year is different here. Lot of empty seats due to the economy. Tourism is down. Saw this at most restaurants we have visited so far...even the traditionally packed ones...

We started out with two appetizers that were given awards during the "Taste of Lahaina" competition.

“Taste of Lahaina” Award-Winning Crisp Pacific Rim Sushi
White rice, crab, avocado rolled in nori, macadamia nut crust, red Thai curry sauce................................$10

Big rolls of flavorful goodness. The sauce was good, but I prefer the more traditional soy and wasabi sauce (provided, as well.). Very good.

Next, “Taste of Lahaina” Award-Winning Coconut Macadamia Nut Shrimp
With Hawaiian fruit salsa and sweet Thai chili sauce................................................................................$11

Absolutely a MUST do and highly recommend this one. You will be highly impressed!

I also ordered Five Onion Soup
Sourdough croutons, Swiss, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses .............................................................. $5

Very tasty and good cheeses.

As a main course (in the salad area of the menu) I chose the Sesame Seared Ahi Salad. Asian greens in a sweet & spicy seasame ginger dressing topped with seared ahi .....................................$12

Very fresh and loved the sesame flavors. The asian greens balanced out the ahi flavors. So good!

Finally, the wife ordered the Local Style Cobb Salad.
Greens tossed in a creamy herb dressing layered with Gorgonzola, tomato, avocado, egg, bacon
Your choice of mahimahi, chicken or shrimp ............................................................................................$12

She chose shrimp for the topping, and BIG shrimp they were! Fresh as always.

Everything was so good here, and when you combine this outstanding food with quality ingredients, the outstanding service (got the same waiter as last year...Jose), and the incredible view, lunch was PERFECT!

Check it out. You'll be a happy camper.

Aloha.

“Great Dinner Date”

My husband and I arrived on a Saturday night at 7:30. Normally any other restaurant in the states would be packed, but Maui clears out after sunset. The Poke nachos were EXCELLENT. I am not the biggest fan of Ahi, but these were so tasty and beautiful. The setting of being beach side and open air was wonderful. Service was great. I saw they serve breakfast and lunch, but we just had dinner. Try it.

“Great View, Bad Food”

I had made reservations a month in advance for dinner at sunset on our last night. Upon arrival, they had no record of them and told me I should have called to confirm. They accommodated us, but not the view I had requested. The food was bad, bad, bad. There were 5 of us and none of us finished our meals. We ordered dessert to watch the sunset and it took 25 minutes for them to bring ice cream. Very very disappointing meal. The view, however, is breathtaking.

“good food, great views”

This restaurant feels upscale, complete with white linen tablecloths and beautiful view of the ocean. We were fortunate enough to arrive at 5:55pm, just in time to order their early bird special, which is a 3-course dinner for $30 per person, an excellent value. Their food was elegantly presented and delicious. As you might expect, all the specialities were seafood, though they do also have steak and some pastas. Skip the pupus, they are very expensive and nothing special. The service was prompt. Be sure to make a reservation, and leave early. It’s hard to find in the dark, and the restaurant is at the rear of the Napili Kai Beach Resort property so you’ll have to walk a little bit.
