We stayed 5/5-5/8, in an ocean view room in building 2. We got the room for $195 a night through bookit, but add to that a 17.71 daily "resort fee" for parking, coffee in the room, newspaper, and the fee isn't optional. The first day of valet is complimentary, then 5 bucks a day thereafter, plus tip, but you are already paying for parking in the resort fee. There are lots of spaces in the parking garage, and it's very close to the lobby so you aren't saving yourself a lot of time by using valet. Remember to tell the front desk you wont be using valet parking after the first day. Your room key gets you into the parking garage.
The room was clean, the bed had nice linens, the bathroom had adequate towels, soap, lotions, shampoo, conditioner. There is a small fridge, and it costs extra to have a microwave in the room. There is a lot of closet/dresser space. There is a laundry facility in building 4, WAY across the complex. It's 2 bucks for the washer, 2 for the dryer, and 1 for the detergent. If you do more than one load, or have family sized laundy, you would do better going into town, or at least buying a box of detergent at Longs.
The service was pleasant. I had emailed asking for a king size bed and we were not given one; I asked reception to change it and it took about 10 minutes but it was changed. The travel agent in the lobby is very nice, but you will get better deals if you look around, but it is convenient for them to do all the planning for you and print out your tickets.
The food by the pool was average; we had nachos that quickly turned soggy. The breakfast buffet was expensive; 23 bucks for each adult, but we liked the variety and the food. A BETTER breakfast bet is driving north to Napali Shores (you'll see an itty bitty sign on the condo sign for "The Gazebo"), park, walk through the complex down to the water, and you'll get to The Gazebo restaurant. Their Big Kahuna omelet and Macadamia Pancakes fed two adults for under 25 bucks, and we couldn't eat it all. Get there by 7:15 am to avoid lines; otherwise you'll wait 30 to 45 minutes in line to be seated.
The snorkeling at Black Rock is okay but crowded and you have to watch out for people jumping off the rock onto your head. You'll do better going to Makena Landing or 2.1 miles north past Office Road to the reserve. The beach at the Sheraton is lovely and perfect for families. The pool is beautiful; we got out there early and were the only people in it. We really enjoyed it.
I would stay here again, but only if I got a deal. I wouldn't spend $400 a night, because I didn't think it was worth that, but I would spend $200 a night, due to the nice facility, convenient location, great pool and beach, decent snorkeling, and atmosphere.
