Ritz: Beautiful property. Would definitely recommend. Hubby and I in our 30’s and stayed from 3/10-3/17. I thought the location of the property was well situated. Rented a convertible Sebring car through Dollar and drove all over the island. Less than 5 minutes to Napili, about 10 to Kaanapali and about 15-20 to Lahaina. Took us about an hour to get to Wailea. We liked the seclusion but since we live in a big city with tons of traffic, a 20 minute drive was a piece of cake.
Outdoors: Loved the cascading pools. They do have a small kiddie pool but kids do still swim in the bigger pools. It was not an issue when we were there. Lots of lounge chairs so we didn’t have any trouble getting one, but they are terribly uncomfortable! They did have floats available in the pool as well. It was very windy at the pool some days and drinks did get blown over. It didn’t bother me very much, but I could see how this could be a negative for some people. The weather was very nice while we were there with only one quick shower.
Grounds were very well kept and there were beautiful flowers and plants everywhere.
The beach was a little way away from the pool area but not a big deal. Walk down and then get the golf cart to bring you back.
Beach: This was my one “gripe” about Maui. I overall prefer the beaches that we have visited in the Caribbean and Mexico. I didn’t like that the hotel had no loungers or service on the beach. It seemed that people brought their own chairs to the beaches. We did that later in the week, but it was very different than our typical “beach vacations.” We also visited Wailea, Kaanapali and Napili beaches.
Room: There was a convention there for part of our stay and our room type was not available so we were upgraded to a suite. We loved the room and the space. The kitchen was well stocked and we made breakfast in the room several mornings. There were lots of drawers in the room and closet area for storing clothes, etc. It was a very comfortable place to be. The view was of the grounds.
Hotel Restaurants: We ate dinner at Kai Sushi at the Banyan Tree and had a very nice experience at both. I preferred Kai because I felt it was more relaxed and I liked the menu better overall.
Service: The valets were all very friendly and called us by name. Check-in was great and everyone we encountered throughout the hotel would give you an “Aloha!” The only spotty service we had was by the pool one day.
Maui Excursions: Paragon Sunset Sail/Whale Watch-Really fun crew and sail. Basic snacks and any kind of drink you could want. We saw a whale breach and did the performance sail back to the dock.
Kapalua Adventures-We only got to do 2 out of 4 zips because they said the winds were too strong. What we did get to do was lots of fun and awesome scenery but I didn’t like that we had to ask for refunds. I think the company should have offered it before having to ask since we didn’t get the complete experience.
Shopped at Whaler’s Village (ABC has practially anything you need), Front St in Lahaina and in Wailea. Some very unique finds and also lots of stores that you can find in many malls throughout the U.S.
Drove to the top of Haleakala and had lunch at Kula Grill. Highly recommended. Was very glad we didn’t do the biking. The roads were a little narrow and winding and cars and bikes shared the road. I enjoyed driving it ourselves in the convertible.
Other Maui restaurants:
Feast at Lele-Our favorite night in Maui. Most of the food was really good and liked having our own server and table. The show was lots of fun to watch and we took some great pictures!
Hula Grill-Fun for sunset cocktails and appetizers. Live music and fun to meet other travelers.
Kimo’s-Quick service. Had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but nice bar area. Had Caesar salads, fish and bread. All very tasty! Pretty casual.
Honolua Store-Cheap breakfast and lunch in walking distance to the Ritz. Also a good place to get snacks, wine, etc for the room.
Kula Grill-Neat place. Reminded me of how Hawaii probably was many years ago. Great pizzas, salads, wraps.
Sea House in Napili-Had a nice lunch here. Service was pretty good. Fish and chips were great. Right on the beach. Décor in the restaurant was a little dated, but who cares when you have the great view outside.
Lahaina Grille & Oyster Bar-Ate inside the restaurant because the rooftop deck was fully booked. Had an appetizer tray which we enjoyed, but nothing spectacular.
Ferraro’s at the Four Seasons-Went for lunch. Great service and lobster roll was awesome!!
Overall: I am very happy that we were able to visit Hawaii and Maui. We typically like to try different places to visit and I’d like to see some of the other Hawaiian islands. From Texas, Hawaii isn’t the easiest place to get to and we prefer going to the Caribbean. We did have a great trip, though and I would not hesitate to recommend Maui or the Ritz for a vacation.
