“good value, but you get what you pay for”

Maui Seaside Hotel

We stayed here twice - one night upon arrival and then again for two nights at the end of our stay.

This hotel is what you pay for - a basic, cheap motel that is clean but dated. It was a great option for us as the price was right and we only used it as a place to sleep. The fact that the pool was always closed didn't bother us because we would not have used it anyway. The service on the first stay was fine, but the second time we were a little disappointed.

We were traveling with our infant daughter and had requested a queen size bed when booking as she was sleeping between us. The first time this request was met, but the second time is wasn't (we were given a room with two doubles). After requesting to switch the desk clerk was quite rude. I accepted her response that my request was only a request, not a guarantee. I asked if they had cribs available instead, and though they did, she was unable to get me one because the housekeeping staff were not on at night. However I had just checked in and there were four women at the front desk. This was the younger woman (I guess this is family run?), and though she was very rude and unhelpful, the older women and housekeeping staff were much friendlier. We did not get a crib as she did not feel it was her job. Rather than get into an argument we just left it at that and made do.

I would still stay there again on the way in and out of Maui, but I would request a crib ahead of time and not count on great service. Of course it is worth staying here for the price alone if you plan to spend your day traveling elsewhere.

“Great budget hotel”

If you're looking for a centrally located budget hotel, the Maui Seaside is a good bet. My nightly rate was under $100 and the hotel staff from the housekeepers to the front desk clerks were very friendly.
The hotel's location makes it easier to travel to different areas of the island. If you don't feel like getting away, there is a hotel pool and a beach within walking distance. The location is adjacent to a pier so the beach area may not be the best on Maui. However, compared to what you might spend at the larger chain hotels in the tourist areas, you'd be better off pocketing the difference and using it on tours or fine dining.
There are two shopping areas near the hotel, one of which is in walking distance from the hotel. This includes a major grocery store. Also, there are a number of restaurants from fast food to fine dining within a 3 mile radius. The airport is approx. 10 minutes away.
The only concern I had while staying there is the parking. The stalls were narrow for an SUV or van. The parking is also limited, however, the lot did extend beyond the hotel premises. There is a security guard walking around to ensure the safety of both the guests and the vehicles. On the plus side, there is no additional charge for parking.
Overall, I had an excellent five night stay there. I used the hotel primarily for sleeping and used the rest of time to explore the beautiful island of Maui.

“Drive On”

Maui Seaside Hotel

Having arrived in Maui at 10:30 PM we thought it best to stay in Kahului vs driving into Kaanapali so we chose one of the only 2 places in Kahului. It was like being at a motel we would stay as kids when on vacation-cheap but fairly clean. We felt like we had gone back to the '50's. we were so tired this first night we didn't notice how tired and dirty this place is.

On our return because our flight didn't leave until almost midnight and we had to check out of our condo in Kaanapali at 11:00 we chose to stay again at Maui Seaside just to rest and get ready for the flight home - no overnight, just a dayroom to relax before the flight but we paid as if we were staying the night.

The staff was the most unfriendly and unaccommodating I've ever experienced. We arrived at 1:30 only to be told we couldn't check in until 3:00 - the parking lot was basically empty. So we sat in the lobby and waited until 2:30 and asked if "any" rooms were ready. Nope, you have to wait until 3:00. So, at 3:00 my husband asked if the room was ready and they told us they'd put us in the "tower". Well, the tower is at the back of the bus, 3 story unit which stunk to high heaven. I think they did this on purpose because there were other rooms available.

I was so glad to get out of this hotel! Parking is a nightmare once everyone arrives and you could end up walking a half a mile just to park!!!!!! Not much choice though in Kahului...deal with the mold and nasty interiors or drive on to your destination which is what we'll do next time.

“Great for the Price”

Maui Seaside Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Green Bay

We stayed at the Maui Seaside on three separate occasions for one day each time in January and February. We found each room to be clean and fairly good sized. The staff was always very friendly including the housekeeping and grounds keeper. They always smiled, waved and offered to help out even when not asked. The first stop, we were upgraded to a pool side room. The second two times, we requested early check in and were able to do it. The last day, we had a late flight (11:45pm). We asked if we could keep our suitcases at the hotel, so we wouldn’t have to lug them around with us all day. Not only did they let us leave our luggage in their storage room, they also provided us a small room so we could freshen up before our long flight. That was greatly appreciated.

The location of the hotel is right on the ocean with a very nice view of the ocean, the mountains and Iao Valley. It is located close to shopping and restaurants. While we were there, the onsite restaurant was closed. Each morning they provided a continental breakfast of fruit, baked goods, coffee and juice. Depending on the time you got there, you might have a short wait in line. There was limited seating available inside, but we preferred to eat by the pool.

This hotel is used by Your Man Tours when they are on the Island, as are the Seaside Hotels on the Big Island. When a tour group is there, upgrades are non existent, parking is tight and lines for breakfast are longer. We did not notice any noise from either outside the room or from adjoining rooms in the evening. We got a great night sleep each time. This is our second time staying at Maui Seaside (we were with Yours Man Tours three years ago). Each time we had a pleasant stay.

The hotel is very reasonably priced and after searching for internet coupons were able to find a site to knock off $10+ per night. You just must remember you get what you pay for. We are not ones to sit around, sun ourselves and expect to be waited on. We are out hiking, snorkeling or just enjoying the sites. We leave early in the morning and return at night. For the price, this is the perfect place for us. We would recommend it to anyone who wants a reasonable place to sleep.

“Better than expected.”

Maui Seaside Hotel

After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to book this place. But, it was the only thing on Maui in our budget. It was actually very nice. We got a "deluxe room," which was right by the pool and from our little lanai we could see the ocean. It was much better than expected. I would recommend, as long as you are not expecting a luxurious resort!
