This was my second trip to Kauai. My first trip was about 4 years ago when I had the pleasure of staying at the fabulous Hyatt. This trip was for my friend's wedding. All of the people attending the wedding stayed at the Poipu Plantation. My friend and I stayed in one of the Queen rooms in the B & B while the rest of the group stayed in the Condos.
Overall, our experience in the B & B was good. To me, it felt like I was staying in a bedroom in an old private home. The room was clean. The decor was qaint. The house itself has a very rustic feel. I was suprised how quiet it was at night since all the bedrooms are along one hallway, but I guess the other guests were all as tired as we were from the day's activities. The B & B rooms have soap only, so you have to bring your shampoo, etc. Our room was at the end of the hall and looked out onto a storage area. The AC worked great and there was ample space in the closet.
Breakfast every morning was delicious. I looked forward to the coffee. All of the B & B guests sit at tables together, so be prepared to make small talk with the other guests. Breakfast is only served from 8-9 AM.
Make sure you read all of their booking/cancellation policies closely. They require most of the money for the room up front.
The office staff is extremely helpful. As others have mentioned they will assist you with everything. The use of towels, beach chairs, coolers, etc. was great. They printed my boarding passes for me for a small fee.
The grounds are clean and well maintained. There is a coin laundry available but you must bring your own detergent or purchase some from the office during office hours. There is no bar, pool, restaurant etc., but everything is very close by. The location is an easy drive to the beach, restaurants, etc. I was told there is wi-fi available. The office has the password.
The Condos appear to have been updated in the last few years. My friends stayed in a second story condo. Their veiw was beautiful. They enjoyed having a living area, full kitchen, etc. Had I stayed longer, I think the condos would have been a good option. I do not think the Condos include any maid services.
If you want a day of pampering, head to the Anara Spa, at the Hyatt. You can use the spa facilities for the whole day if you buy any service. There is a lap pool, cafe, gym, steam/dry saunas, hot tubs, outdoor showers, etc. Its truly a lovely place. The spa is going through an expansion. It did not look any different ( I went on my last trip as well) but the massages and facials do not take place in the treatment rooms on site. You walk over to an ocean view hotel room for those services. I liked getting my massage with the sliding door open listening to the ocean, but I do remeber the treatment rooms at the actual spa being really cool. I think they have a few more months to go on the expansion.
My friend and I think the best Mai Tai was at the Princeville Hotel. We sampled them at pretty much every place we went to. We sat on their restaurant patio and enjoyed their truly spectacular view. Their Mai Tais are $10, but they are potent and their view is worth paying $10. Second runner up would be the Mai Tai at the Hyatt's Sunset Terrace. The view is also beautiful and the atmosphere at the Hyatt is truly Hawaiian luxury.
Kauai is truly a magical place. I hope to return again and again. Enjoy your trip!
