We spent four days in a one bedroom corner suite at the Courtyard. It was very spacious, with windows looking out to the ocean, the boardwalk, the hotel pool, and Virginia Beach. We paid $314 a night - more than ever before but felt justified for an oceanfront suite over a summer weekend.
We loved our balcony, the beach access, the hotel pool and pool bar ... how wonderful to be right on the beach and then come back to our comfortable room without crossing streets and driving with sand in our toes.
Our room was very clean when we arrived. Everything we requested (towels, toilet paper) came quickly. With 11 and 12 year old boys enjoying the beach and bringing sand back to our room, I think the maid took a cue from us and didn't go overboard on cleaning. She made our bed, took out the trash, vacuumed and replaced the towels, but didn't always clean our glassware. I didn't bother to complain about it - I felt bad enough about the "beach hut" state of our room and wasn't about to spend my vacation time complaining about a dirty glass or two.
As others have said, there was frequently a short wait for the elevators. We requested a low floor for this reason, figuring we could just climb them to our room but we ended up on the eighth floor anyway. We did stay over the last weekend in June and we never had to wait more than a minute.
As others have said, the fighter jets fly almost directly over the Marriott on their landing approach, low and LOUD. There were less planes on the weekend and most in the evenings during the week. I really enjoyed watching the planes and it was no problem for me to cover my ears if necessary. It seemed to be louder on the pool side of the hotel than the ocean side.
