We selected this hotel based on previous stays at Hampton Inns in other cities. Knowing Hampton Inn to be a reputable chain, and having breakfast included(at the beach this is not a given at all hotels) also influenced our decision. As another reviewer noted, as of July 3 when we checked out, there were still renovations going on on the first floor--this did not impact us at all on the 5th floor. Yes, the elevators were a bit slow and stuffy, but the stairs are easily accessible--we used these mostly going down!) The decor and size of the room were very nice and acceptable. The bathroom is HUGE compared to the Sheraton, even if the bathroom decor is just a little..well....I guess "off" is the term I would use. Doesn't really impact the USE of the bathroom, though! Balcony was just fine, there are a couple of plastic chairs provided (Manager: a small plastic table like at other hotels would be nice though, somewhere to put a drink or coffee while relaxing??!!)
On-site amenities: The breakfast is nice continental--KrispyKreme donuts, muffins, some sort of hot thing that rotates each day (eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, whatever...) coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, etc.... (The juice and coffee is supposed to be accessible all day long, but some days it wasn't! Also, once the attached restaurant starts serving dinner, going after juice in the corner is just weird!)
T
he pool is what you would get at any other Hampton---small, yet tidy. Not special in any way, but kept clean and sanitary. Good enough if there aren't many people using it, but probably crowded on rainy days???
Lastly--we were completely infested with small black bugs on our check-out morning. I don't necessarily think it was a defect on the hotels part, but when I requested assistance (my kids still needed to shower after their last hurrah in the ocean that morning, and the bugs were all over the bathroom) the gentleman came to my room with multiple cans of bug spray and proceeded to spray the room liberally (as in above our clothes, toothbrushes, luggage, leftover snacks I would have like to have taken on the car trip home....) He then asked me if we had had the outside door open b/c that is where the insects would have come from. Hmmmmm.....paid for an oceanfront room with a balcony....it's a beautiful morning....last day at the beach......Well, yeah, I MIGHT have had the balcony door open?????
Anyway, besides that last incident, our stay was pleasant, and we enjoyed our vacation very much. We usually change hotels every year, so I can't say that I would be back to this one, but if you enjoy Hampton Inns in other cities, this one would be on par with those.
