“Really friendly hotel and excellent value for money”

Tryp Port Cambrils

My wife and I have just returned from a week away without the kids having sent the first 3 days of our trip in the Tryp Port Cambrils. I had intended to book in the Monica but thought I'd have a change - particularly when I saw some of the off-peak rates on offer on the Sol Media website. We booked a standard room on half-board basis as this was only 15Euro more than B&B for the both of us per night, but upgraded on arrival to a superior room at an additional 20E per night. We felt it was worth it as the basic rate was so good.Tryp Port Cambrils is basically a good standard chain hotel with a definite Spanish feel made special by the staff - they were so pleasant and helpful. There was a wedding(yes an actual wedding - not just the reception) going on when we arrived which was great.
The food was surprisingly good - better than I expected I must admit. I'm no great lover of buffet-style mealtimes, but the menu was changed on a nightly basis and gave a good range of local dishes. Service was very rapid, all used plates whisked away before you could say 'Pronto'. Watch out for the chef in the left hand corner of the dining room who fresh fries food - chicken etc in the evening, eggs in the morning.
We had a single incident involving a drain-type smell in our original room, (caused by high winds and a lack of rain) but were moved very rapidly and efficiently to another room as soon as we reported it.
We parked our car on the road outside the hotel to avoid the 10Euro/day hotel charge without any problems but could see that the Community of Cambrils' intention is to charge for street parking soon - watch this space.
As regards some of the negative comments I've read here
1. The beds are fine, firm but fine.
2. I couldn't hear the railway - but we were in the front of the hotel
3. The hotel is centrally located. However, its easy to get disorientated particularly as many of the back streets curve, so it can take you a lot longer to get somewhere than it actually needs to - ask advice and/or get a tourist map.
4. Parking can indeed be a headache - Unless you're leaving the town, leave your car once you've parked it and walk.

In summary, well impressed by the hotel and in particular its staff and value for money.

“Avoiding Salou”

Tryp Port Cambrils

4 of 5 stars

Stayed at this hotel between Xmas and New Year in order to take the kids to Port Aventura. Great choice as wanted to avoid Salou after visiting it in August. Picked up hire car at airport, 60 euro for 4 days. Parking available at hotel(paying) but parked ok on street outside. Cambrils was a great choice, bars and restaurants open, unlike the ghost town which was Salou. If you're going to explore the town leave the car at the hotel and walk as parking is impossible.
Front desk staff were excellent. We were delighted that after having to book 2 rooms (teenagers) we were given interconnecting rooms, this let the youngest feel much safer. We stayed B&B and breakfast, served until 10.00am was plentiful, a cook can make you omlettes, fried egg and pancakes, look out for her. The rooms were a good size, clean with a small floodlit balcony. Beds are rockhard though and we had to ask the maid for extra pillows which was no problem. Rooms were cleaned every day. Hotel bar is clinical and brghtly lit.
P.Aventura was busy with Spanish people. All the water rides were closed during this season which is a big miss compared to Summer. The park was busy but managed to get on everything. Advise booking tickets on AttractionTix as you just take your printout to Customer Services and collect you're tickets which means you avoid the massive q's at the kiosk, plus it's cheaper. The Xmas firework display is amazing. The park closes at 7.00pm.

“Fantastic Hotel”

Tryp Port Cambrils

Nov 7, 2007
9/9 found this review helpful

One could say that this hotel is fairly average on any list of four star establishments but any negative reports about this hotel should be completely and absolutely disregarded.

The food was very good and varied. My wife is a vegetarian but I am not and there was plenty of choice for us both. The location was great inasmuch as it is out of the mainstream but very close to where ever you want to be. That wide and long sandy beach is only a short walk away as is all the shopping that you could hope for. I was very impressed with Cambrils but more impressed with the Tryp Port Hotel.

There are reports in here that mention the train noise and I have to admit that the tracks are right behind the hotel and you can hear them clattering by at all hours but compared to normal street noise at other four star hotels that we’ve stayed at, it was hardly noticeable.

The hotel itself is not opulent but modern and comfortable. The room that we had was immaculate and kept that way. The only possible negative that I may have about this hotel is dinner time. It starts at 8 pm and I’m usually extremely hungry by then. This can be remedied somewhat by having a snack at the bar. The bar was not always manned but if the staff at the front desk knew that you were there they made sure that you were taken care of promptly and efficiently.

What really sets this hotel well above the rest is simply the staff. Of all of the hotels, inns, B&Bs and motels that I’ve stayed at in my life, this one ranks as one of the most memorable due to the likes of the kind and friendly people who work there. Special mention to Maria, who helped to organize a very special day and who could always be counted upon for an infectious smile as well as her concern for our comfort and well being. Also, if fortune smiles upon you, there will be a little card in your room telling you that Neuza is your chambermaid. I hope that the hotel manager reads this and gives her a substantial raise in pay because even though she is one of those people that you don’t normally interact with, she went to great efforts to make our stay memorable. Thank you, Maria. Thank you, Neuza. Thank you all and we will return if at all possible.

“amazing.”

Tryp Port Cambrils

We have just returned from a 5-night break at the Tryp hotel and had a fantastic time.
The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. We found the rooms to very comfortable with enough storage space and I loved the bathroom!
The location of the hotel was excellent, with about a 20-minute walk to the train station. I read a review prior to my visit saying it was a long walk, it wasn’t, if you knew where to walk…maybe get a map, just for your first day?
Public transport in the area is very good; we used the busses and trains. PortAventura theme park is approximately a 15-minute train ride and a lot of fun. I would also advise you to visit the word heritage site, Tarragona; it is such an amazing and beautiful place, with frequent bus and train links from Cambrils.
Cambrils itself is a very traditional Spanish area, with nice restaurants, bars and shops. For anyone who loves seafood a meal on the front is a must! Whilst we were staying there, we spoke to many people who were in the Salou area and commented on how different the two areas were.
Cambrils is a lovely place to go to on the Costa Daruda, particularly if you want to see Spain like it is. It is also a good base to use for travelling all down the coast because of the good transport links from Valencia up to Barcelona.

We had a fantastic time and would most certainly consider using this hotel and this chain again.
