I always look for HHGs when I travel and was elated to find one so close to the Houston Galleria. However, the front desk staff was having an off weekend. Coming to town for a funeral is not the best time to visit and when I get to the HHG to check in, I'm thinking this will go very quickly since there were 3 people at the front desk. My, my was I wrong. Two people were working on one guest and the other one is just standing there. However, when more guest appeared, he offered to help them and just left me there looking stupid. I interrupted and was told one of the others would get to me shortly, so there I was left waiting again. Since one of the couples who also came for the funeral wanted to pay cash for their room, I told the front desk to hold with my AE credit card. Finally settled in for the night only to be awaked at 6:30 a.m. for a complete evacuation of the property for a false fire alarm. Went to the funeral only to return to find my room cards no longer worked. Had to return to the front desk for new ones. Go out shopping and to dinner on Saturday night and return around 11:30 to find out the new keys do not work on any of the doors to enter the hotel. Had to walk around to front of the building to be let in by the front desk and then get new room keys again. Finally, on the morning of checkout both rooms were charged to my credit card and it took almost an act of congress to get it removed. I thought we had worked this out, but once I receive my AE statement both rooms were still on my card. I then phone the hotel and was told that the room we paid cash for was actually charged to my credit card. It was only after I requested to speak with the Manager was I told the cash amount was shown for the room. However, I still had to call AE to dispute the charge and as of today, it is still outstanding on my AE account. Also, please be aware there is an $8 charge for parking in their garage.
I will continue to stay at HHGs since I am a HHonors member and there facilities are quite clean. In fact I will be coming to Houston soon.
