I checked into this hotel after a poor experience in another hotel in the area - the lady at the front was Heather and she really seemed to care and wanted to help - she showed us a room and quoted us a good rate - her manager Carie later lowered it a bit more to $87 a night - Carie and Heather were always nice and tried to be helpful when things needed attention - plus they just seemed interested in talking and visiting. I noticed a regular patron checking in on the second day, and he was greeted very kindly by the male manager and told to just go on up to his room, and that the registration would be taken care of later - I thought that this was very nice as the guy looked and sounded very tired.
The room was very nice - two double queens with a flat screen TV, Frig and Microwave - two phones - nice work desk, side chair and ottomon and very nice bath - with nice tile, granite sink, great shower massge and nice decor throughout the room.
I did discover three problems in the room - one was fixed but the other two were not - the bathroom sink would drain slowly and this was fixed. There was a lightbulb missing over the sink and this was not replaced and my refrigerator was very hot to the touch with a hot odor on the outside - the inside cooled well.
I reported the Frig and was told that it would be unplugged, but later when I returned, it was not - so I unplugged it over night and then plugged it back in the next day - and reported it again - I was told that it would be replaced that day, but when I came back that evening, it had not been even looked at, so I unplugged it again as I only was keeping waters and fruit in it - then the next day someone did take a look at it but determined it was not hot at all - but that was because I left it unplugged for several hours - I was then told it would be replaced the next day, but I told them that I was leaving the next day - in my opinion this should have been taken care of right away as it was a safety issue - but since they did not, I thought they should give some sort of additional discount -
The breakfast area was clean and nice - they had the usual variety of things, plus waffles that you can make in the shape of Texas - also biscuits, bacon, and then something like an egg McMuffin each morning - they were all tasty - there was also a display dish for donuts and muffins -the donuts were the very tiny ones of chocolate and powered sugar like what you find in a hostess package and each of the three mornings I was there, only two muffins were in the tray at any time - one banana muffin and one blueberry - plus the orange juice tasted like orange flavored water. The first morning there were apples, bananas and oranges, but the next two mornings, there was only apples. The girl who was taking care of the breakfast area kept it clean, but seemed to be watching the TV more than keeping a good supply of food out for the guests
On Wednesday evening they had a manager's reception with some nice hor-de-voirs and a number of people attended and seemed to be having a good time. The food was good.
The computer in the lobby worked okay - but had a lot of defaults set on it for fraud protection so it was hard to use and some of the keys did not type well which would cause some of the letters to not type at all - - plus the counter was high and the chairs low - you could adjust them, but it was difficult - but it would have been a lot easier if a key board tray had been installed - but you could print up to ten copies for free on the honor system -
There was a TV commercial being shot at the hotel for Best Western and so this clogged up the entrance for the better part of one day - the pool area was nice - I did sit outside and read, but the water was cold- but they had a spa that looked nice and lots of chairs and tables available - the workout room was very well equipped and I used it twice - it had a nice flat screen TV too. The landscaping out front was attractive, but they could use some flowers out back by the pool and a bench of some sort in the covered driveway and entranceway would be nice - instead they had an ugly trashcan there.
The Elevator seemed to slip some when you got into it, so I used the stairs most of the time - the whole hotel is non smoking so that is a real plus.
The Flat screen TV in the room was very slow when changing channels and I was told that it was due to the brand of TV- but otherwise it worked very well and was enjoyable to watch - although an information screen kept appearing in the upper right hand corner which was distracting.
The second morning I came down to wait for my ride and the guy behind the counter named Fernando asked if I was checking out and I said no - not until tomorrow - and he responded - "That sucks" - I thought that was rude and made a comment that I would include it in my review - and then the girl next to him said to me Oh, God Bless you - I am not sure what his intentions were.
Then on the day I was to check out the bill was wrong - and the $87 rate we had been quoted had been increased to over $100 for two of the nights - my friend who was hosting me had not yet arrived, so I tried to explain to the man about it but he kept saying there was nothing he could do - when my friend arrived, suddently the man when to the manager and it was straightened out - but this took some time - if he had listened to me, it could have been resolved in advance -
Would I stay here again - yes - because overall it was a very nice place - but some of the "service bugs" need to be worked out including getting things fixed in a timely way.
