“Can't wait to go back!”

West End Hotel Dallas

5 of 5 stars
Pass Christian, Mississippi
Apr 18, 2008

My husband and I highly recommend the West End Hotel on Elm Street in Dallas. We only had the pleasure of 2 nights, but the service was among the best we've ever experienced. We arrived at 1:15--well before their 3:00 check-in--and were given a room immediately. We requested a micro-fridge, and it was delivered within an hour. At 10:00 PM, I realized we had no coffee for the in-room coffee maker, called the front desk, and had someone at the door with coffee in less than 10 minutes. We were on the top floor and had a corner room, both of which cut down on noise in spite of the droves of college students in town for a volleyball championship. The king-size bed and 6 pillows were super comfortable, and the view of the historic district was great. The bathroom was sufficiently big, and there was plenty of closet and drawer space. The TV, remote, and radio all worked properly. There was an easy chair with an ottoman, and a large desk. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Our only issue would be with the A/C and its peculiar workings -- a small concession for such a great location.

    • Disliked — A/C in the room was odd.

“New hotel, Free food, Great Price”

West End Hotel Dallas

Could not believe the Priceline price for this hotel, $104.81!!. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was very good, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, fresh made waffles, cereal, yogurt, pastries. Manager's Reception Mon- Thurs. Free beeer & wine, and food that could pass as dinner. 1 nite, Artichoke chicken, steamed vegtables, quiches and cheesecake. Next nite 2 kinds of chicken wings, vegtables, and mini eclairs. 4 to 5 blocks from the Convention Center. A $17 to $18, 35 minute ride from DFW. Again, the staff was very freindly and extremely helpfull. Sometime in 09 will become a Crowne Plaza, was a Hampton Inn, bedding and furniture is Hampton Inn.

“Wonderful place to stay in Dallas”

West End Hotel Dallas

4 of 5 stars
Fontana, CA
Mar 20, 2008

I just spent 4 days in Dallas and stayed at the West End Hotel in Downtown. Ideal location (walking distance to many sights AND American Airlines Center, which was important to me). Friendly and accommodating staff, great service, clean rooms, great complementary breakfast. Wonderful experience - will definitely stay there again if I ever find myself in Dallas again. Excellent value for your money.

“Horrible Hotel”

When I arrived at the hotel I immeadeatly realized there would be problems. The front door had graffitti on it. I went to check in and was told although I had reserved a room with one king sized bed they only had a room with a queen wich was not a problem for me. Upon entering the room that obviously had not been updated since the eighties I was welcomed by a musty odor. I then went in to the bathroom and to my shock I saw blood on the bathtub. I went back to the front desk and informed them of the situation. The front desk supervisor told me they could send someone to clean it or I could take a room with two double beds. I stated that I would not do either and they should find me another room or I would be checking out and staying at another hotel. The supervisor told me he did not care what option I chose. I eventually got another clean but very outdated room.
Hours after getting in the room a housekeeper walked in without knocking and then asked me what I was doing in the room. Later in the same evening I called the front desk to order room service. They told me they did not offer room service. At that point I was quite upset and went down to the front desk to show them my laptop with their website's homepage loaded stating they indeed do offer room service. The front desk supervisor told me they obviously were not a full service hotel but I could order chineese or pizza.
The next day I got a call from the hotel's General Manager Mark Peek. He was very professional and pleasant man and explained that they were very sorry about my experience and we discussed many issues about the hotel. He offered to comp me one nights room charge and would make sure the rest of my stay was more pleasant. The only good thing I can say about the hotel is Mark Peek.

Peter

p.s. While standing out front of the hotel I was panhandled twice in front of the security guard who did nothing.

“Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in”

West End Hotel Dallas

1 of 5 stars
Dallas, Texas
Feb 29, 2008

Granted the rate and package were truly economical AND the hotel is getting bought, but seriously, there were large, mysterious red stains on the carpeting in the hallway and room. Room: Worn and soiled. Staff: Very nice management but I think the facilities may be the worst I have stayed in. I can do Budget if it is clean. This was kind of expensive and dirty. We know now why they offer late check in - there would be no way that anyway who wasn't in a coma would stay here in daylight. The other bizarre thing was throngs of random conventioneers?
