“Just Returned From Weekend Stay @ The West End Hotel”

West End Hotel Dallas

4 of 5 stars
Missouri
Jan 14, 2008

Booked a last minute trip through Travelocity at the West End Hotel. The location was great - within walking distance to many restaurants and bars, as well as several other attractions. The hotel is older but in good shape and the staff was super friendly.
I won't lie and say the hotel is perfect but you did have to look for things to find them. We did not seem to have noise from the next room as stated in previous reviews.

Dick's Last Resort and the Cadillac Bar were our favorite local places. However, a short cab ride or drive to Bread Winners Cafe is worth the trip.

Would we recommend this hotel? Most definitely!

“Great Cotton Bowl Experience”

West End Hotel Dallas

5 of 5 stars
Kansas City

We just returned from the Cotton Bowl game and our stay at the West End Hotel. I have to say that we were quite pleased. The staff was courteous, very accommodating, and fulfilled all requests. Our rooms were clean and all utilities functional. The complimentary hot breakfast was excellent, and even with the packed house of Missouri and Arkansas fans the fare was kept well supplied and fresh.

The hotel is just three blocks from Market Street and a dozen, or so, great restaurants. We were also walking distance from the 6th Floor Depository Museum and the Grassy Knoll, which is a must see if you visit Dallas. The DART light rail system was directly behind the hotel. (I had a parking pass to the Cotton Bowl but found it more convenient taking the public transportation system. Dallas knows how to host an event.)

This is an older hotel, but still of high quality. It may not be 5 star, but we found it to be of 4 star quality. The area itself is no noisier, or less subject to panhandlers than downtown Chicago or any other major city that we have stayed in. Overall it was a great three day stay at the West End Hotel.

“Disappointed”

West End Hotel Dallas

2 of 5 stars
Tulsa, OK, USA
Nov 27, 2007

I chose this hotel based on the reviews here at Trip Advisor, but found my experience to be less enjoyable than some others. The hotel will soon be converted to a Crowne Plaza, and perhaps some of the problems I encountered will be corrected at that time.

Although this is a mid-range property, there are a few expectations that were not met. Some of the issues I had: parking in the hotel garage is an additional $9.00 per day and off-site parking would be difficult to find, and possibly not very secure based on the area of downtown in which the hotel is located; the building itself is, for lack of a better word, tired and in need of remodeling; the bed comforter was simply a thin white coverlet; the bathtub/shower did not drain adequately, causing significant amounts of water to accumulate while showering; the hall carpets were noticeably stained; the television was well-used and showed a blurred picture; the ice machine worked only intermittenly; and the hot breakfast was more limited in its offerings on Sunday morning.

On the positive side, the West End district is within walking distance; the light rail train is just outside the hotel; the wireless internet access was free and simple to use; and an ATM was directly across the street.

I have paid the same amount per night for more upscale hotels in downtown Dallas using an online travel site. I recommend seeking another property besides this one if available for a similar price.

“Very good hotel in a very good location”

West End Hotel Dallas

Oct 22, 2007

This is a very good hotel with a friendly checkin desk, good lifts, excellent rooms which almost match a Westin but at a fraction of the cost. I cannot fault the room one bit. Good size, comofrtable bed, nicely decorated and a good bathroom.

The location is superb near the DART station and also a few blocks from the JFK museum. Yes, there are many homeless people around which surprised me but it wasn't the hotel…it was ALL of downtown Dallas…in fact, central Dallas is actually a typical urban city so if you don't want that then stay in the suburbs...but besides being asked for change there weren't any problems...although you probably don't want to leave a digital camera on display advertising that you are a tourist.

Great hotel at a good value price range and in a great location…no car needed.

“Good location”

West End Hotel Dallas

Liked the location, parking was ample in the garage. Continental breakfast was very nice. Room was furnished nice, and the wirleless internet was above average. Would stay here again. None of the homeless people in the vicinity were agressive to me as some have stated. They, of course, asked for donations but I firmly told them no and they left me alone.
