“Nice Westin, Near Arts District”

The Westin City Center

Mar 28, 2008

Westin City Center, Dallas.

This Westin is part of a multi-use complex which includes a small mall with food court, shops and an indoor ice skating rink.
Connected to Adam's Mark Hotel (soon to be Sheraton) via covered skybridge.

Clean room had typical upscale Westin-style furniture with floor to ceiling windows. Our windows faced downtown, some rooms face the indoor mall. Bed, as usual, was very comfortable.

The Meyerson Concert Hall is a short two blocks away. The East End Bus Transfer Center is three blocks in the opposite direction. The # 39 Bus will take you to and from Dallas Love for $ 1.50. The DART light rail Pearl Street Station is one block over. Neiman Marcus is several blocks away on Main Street.
Walk four blocks to the McKinney Avenue Uptown Trolley, near the Fairmont Hotel, for a free trolley ride to a safe and vibrant neighborhood full of shops, restaurants and people watching. (www.mata.org)

Not much in the direct vicinity of Westin. We were surprised to find the area void of the shops typical in a downtown area. We did enjoy breakfast at the Hotel Indigo on Main Street,
next to Majestic Theatre. After which we walked down Main Street to Dealey Plaza. On the way back, we stopped in City Tavern for a drink.

“Westin is nice”

The Westin City Center

Clearwater, Florida

I had a junior suite which is very spacious and was on a starwood preferred floor. THe hotel was easy to get to from the airport and is connected to a mall area with lots of breakfast and lunch places. I was there Easter weekend so nothing was open. I went to the gym and enjoyed the tv's connected to each cardio machine. In general, it is a nice hotel, nothing spectacular. The staff I spoke with were pleasant as well. I am not too sure there are many dinner places within walking distance but there is a train that I did not take that is right next door. The concierge said it cost 50 cents and would take me to a stop with 20 plus restaurants-maybe next time.

“Satisfactory downtown hotel”

The Westin City Center

I stayed here for a conference. Room was clean and looked recently renovated. Great shower/tub with a nice dual shower head. Room was very clean. Lobby area is quite small. Service in the hotel restaurant was slow and unresponsive. No pool.

“Enjoyable but Expensive”

The Westin City Center

Feb 24, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

To save wear & tear on your eyes, I’ll try to offer this review information as concisely as possible. After my 3-day stay at this Westin, here’s what I think...

The Pros
- Acceptably clean room (there was some garbage in the closet left behind by a previous occupant, and some small stains on the chairs, but everything else was fine).
- Good size room (didn’t feel cramped at all with two queen beds, a nightstand, a desk, an easy chair with footstool, and the combination TV cabinet & chest of drawers).
- Had a “super shower” with two heads that provided an excellent drenching (plenty of hot water too...and I do mean hot).
- It was very quiet; didn’t hear the other guests at all.
- Very comfortable bedding (lots of pillows and a down comforter).
- The “climate control” was adjustable and worked perfectly.
- The Starbucks coffee maker was a nice perk.
- Received a “free” paper every morning.
- Good view (one whole side of the room was a window looking onto downtown Dallas).
- Wonderful light-blocking curtains (a real plus if you want to sleep late).
- Concierge was knowledgeable and helpful when making dinner/sightseeing arrangements.

The Cons
- Not much of a bargain (paid $228 w/tax per night). I’ve paid much less in other cities for a comparable room.
- No internet access included in room price (must pay either $16/day for a hard wired connection, or $10/day for wireless). The Adam’s Mark hotel across the street at least provided free wireless internet in its lobby.
- Hotel restaurant has a limited and somewhat pricey selection (plan on $30+ per person). However, there is a food court beside the hotel with more affordable selections (and there’s a pretty ice rink there too).

The Bottom Line
The pros definitely outweigh the cons in this hotel, which is within walking distance of several notable attractions (such as three museums and a symphony hall). You’ll most likely have a pleasant visit, but your wallet/purse surrender about $700 for a 3-day stay, and there aren’t many amenities included in that price beyond the basics (like a coffee maker).

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — It was clean, quiet and had a nice view.
    • Disliked — No additional amenities (like internet access) included in the somewhat steep price.

“water leaks and cheerleaders on the loose”

The Westin City Center

Feb 21, 2008

My fiance and I stayed at the hotel for two nights. The [first] room, #221, seemed very nice - tasteful decor, Starbucks coffee for the coffeemaker, etc. - until we discovered pieces of wet plaster falling from the ceiling onto the bed. Unfortunately this discovery occurred AFTER we had unpacked, showered, and gotten into that same bed. ICK. We reported the problem to the front desk. The pleasant but not terribly apologetic clerk got us another room - although to our surprise she didn't seem to share our concern over what appeared to be a water leak. We packed our things and moved to the new room.

This second room, #423, turned out to be wheelchair accessible, which would not have been a problem except that the shower floor (which was open to the rest of the bathroom) was not built properly slanted, so that upon using the shower, water ran out into the bathroom and pooled in the opposite corner instead of running down the shower drain. (We wondered if the room above our original room was wheelchair accessible - we thought that might explain the leak over the bed!)

In addition to these problems with our room - correction, rooms - the hotel was full of "energetic" (read: loud) young cheerleaders and their families during our stay.

Overall, our experience wasn't awful, but it was not what we expected from a Westin. We would have said such to the front desk clerk upon checkout if he had asked us how our stay was, but he didn't.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — valet parking attendant helpfully directed us to self parking option on our request; nice room decor; Starbucks coffee in the room
    • Disliked — the hotel charged for room internet; the bed linens and the towels were frayed; and the water cups were disposable instead of glass.
