“Everything was just fine, but not fabulous”

The Best Western was fine. We were glad to get a hotel downtown at such a late notice for the Country Music Marathon weekend. My major complaint is not with the hotel itself, but that Hotwire considers it a 3 star. It is 2 star at best, and after explaining it to customer service through Hotwire, I was emailed a form letter stating that their researchers looked into it and considered it 3 star quality. Very deceptive, in my opinion.

Here are the basic pros and cons:

Pros:
Good location, Clean rooms, Great prices for downtown Nashville, Free valet parking, Free breakfast (which is just OK, but will do), generally comfortable bed and pillows

Cons:
Potential for Lots of noise (every room opens to outside and we could hear people's footsteps in the corridor all night. Thankfully, no loud groups of people were there), free internet is deceptive because you need to provide your own ethernet cable (who travels with those?), scratchy towels and sheets, poor toiletries

Go to the Best Western knowing that it is a MOTEL, not a hotel, and you will not be disappointed. Don't expect 3 star quality... everything is fine, but not fabulous.

“Walking distance to nightlife”

Hint: Parking is off Seventh Street. We had to drive around the block
before we found the entrance. They do have valet parking only, but the best part is there is "no charge" for the parking. We wanted to do the nightlife on Broadway so I had checked out all the hotels within walking distance and this was the best deal I could find. I knew we would arrive shortly after noon and take off to check out the
bars/restaurants on Broadway and probably not arrive back to the hotel until late. All the other hotels had a fee for parking and were definitely way more expensive. All we needed was a clean room within a "safe" walking distance plus it had a free limited breakfast. The breakfast was in a very small room and my husband was not impressed. They did have make your own waffles, apples, cereal, juice, coffee and lumpy biscuits and gravy. I didn't have a problem with the breakfast. To walk to Broadway and the bar scene takes about
7 to 10 minutes, but longer coming back as it is "up hill" most of the way. We did encounter three homeless men sitting/laying on the sidewalk on the way back, but just crossed the street so we wouldn't have to step over them. The beds were very attractively made up with four pillows on each bed, the room was clean, but there was a lot of traffic noise throughout the night. You take an elevator from the lobby up to your floor and then walk outside to get to your room. Would I stay here again - yes. It served our purpose for what we were
looking for in a hotel for that particular night.

“Really close to downtown”

We arrived in Nashville at around 3pm and went straight to the Gaylord Entertainment Centre to see if we could get a cheap room. We got this for around $60 per night and stayed two nights.

It was a simple 10 minute walk to downtown which on first inspection seemed a little grim but turned out to be our finest ever destination.

The hotel was clean and had free valet parking. It was a little bit like a motel, you took the lift from the lobby to you floor then walked outside onto a balcony until you found your door. The room was comfortable and clean with coffee making facilities and a huge telly.

Free breakfast consisted of DIY waffles (brilliant fun) and muffins, bagels, apples and jam. The coffee was good enough.

The staff were truly helpful and friendly. There is a mini supermarket attached.

“We were not disappointed”

Best Western Downtown Convention Center

We checked in on Dec 29th, initially we were a little worried because our floor seemed to consist entirely of college kids in for the Kentucky game. Within 10 min of being in our room, one of our nextdoor neighbors was urinating right outside our door! But that young man decided to pass out, and we chatted with a few of the guys and they seemed alright. They checked out the next day, and most of our floor was empty.

The bellmen were extremely nice and helpful. As were the people at the front dest, Miss Gwen is the best! Housekeeping was ok, the first morning I requested a few extra towels, she asked me if we needed our room made up and I told her that we did. When we returned a few hours later, there was a bag on our doorknob with all new towels and tolietries, but the room was not made up. Not THAT big of a deal, I just wanted the bed remade, and we got our extra towels.

Upon check-in we were not offered a choice on a smoking or non-smoking room. I am a smoker but would never smoke in my room, my travel companion is a non-smoker. When we walked into the room I immediately smelled stale smoke, but my friend did not, he didn't even know it was a smoking room until he saw an ashtray. The smell wasn't THAT bad, I just lit my candle and it was fine.

The main part of the room was fairly good, the bed was comfortable, the sheets were in excellent shape, the chairs were kind of beat up but what can you do? The only thing we had a problem with was finding enough outlets. Between 2 cell phone chargers, a portable DVD player and a laptop, we had to unplug a light as well as use the outlet in the bathroom. Also, the tv did not have a remote.

Speaking of the bathroom, this was the only part of the room that I was unhappy with. The toliet and shower were in a seperate room. But the shower was weird, very small, almost like a stall with a small tub. The shower curtain was on one of those curved rods, and was very long, if you kept in in the tub it was about 2 inches onto the floor. But if you put it outside, the bathroom flooded. You could also hear noises from the another room, ALL the noises LOL

I was a little bit leery about staying here after reading all the bad reviews. But for the price, and type (more motel than hotel) it really was fine. It definitely isn't the Plaza, nor is it a no-tell motel, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to rest your head, close to all the excitement, then this is your place.

“So Bad!”

Best Western Downtown Convention Center

Just got back from the Music City Bowl and stayed at this hotel for 1 night. I requested a non-smoking room and was promised both the night before and upon arrival that it was a non-smoking room. We walk in to find that the room wreaked of smoke!! I immediately called the front desk and they said that "yes, this is a smoking room and this is what you requested", I was appalled!! They couldn't do anything for me, because all rooms were booked from the bowl game. Very un-helpful.

Besides this setback, this hotel is also just an overall dump inside and out. It's very old and very dirty. The management staff can't seem to understand what customer service is and how to effectively run a hotel.

Just another instance was when my wife was in the lobby and overheard a conversation between another guest and the front desk management staff. This guest didn't have any towels in their room and had 4 people in their room all waiting to take showers so they could start their day and head over to the bowl game. Well, management told him they didn't have any towels and that he would have to wait until 10:00 when more arrived from the wash!! Ridiculous!! Of course this guest got upset (rightfully so) and the argument ensued. Anyways, the front desk decided to go in the back and locate 1 towel for this guest to have for his room of 4.

I'll never stay at a Best Western again because of this experience!! Highly recommend you stay away from this hotel!

Only good things are location, but there are tons of other Nashville hotels also with good locations that are so much better than this dump, and the free breakfast.
