“What a delight!”

My wife and I stayed in the Vista Suite for 5 days in March of 2008 and absolutely loved every minute of it. The suite was very comfortable and immaculately clean but it is the location that is to die for. Beautiful views in all directions and totally relaxing. The new infinity pool is wonderful too and although not heated it is very refreshing. Free wireless internet is a real plus as well. Lydia and Mayte were very welcoming and helpful.

We also enjoyed the quaint little town of San Pancho and especially enjoyed eating at Maria's restaurant on the main street in town. San Pancho reminded us a bit of Todos Santos on the Baja except more tropical - it is the Mexico we remember so fondly from decades ago.

“Our new home in Mexico”

Bungalows Lydia

We began our vacation in the resort area of Nuevo Vallarta for the first part of the week and moved north to San Pancho and the beautiful Bungalows Lydia for the balance of our vacation....and I can tell you that our resort days are over. If you are looking to experience real hospitality, great accomodations, a slow pace, and stunning natural beauty this is the place. While Lydia and Matye are availiable for your every need, they are also very hands off which makes for a very nice stay. Matye was a fountain of great information on everytihing from the best restaurants and groceries in town (not that there is a lot of choice), to how to catch a bus to Puerto Vallarta. We felt so comfortable at Bungalows Lydia that after returning there from a day in Puerto Vallarta we truly felt as though we were home. There are some things that could be improved but are really minor in the bigger scheme of things....rock hard beds, an unheated pool and not a great amount of privacy (by virtue of proximity, not anything the owners do) are the few things that stand out. Overall though, this is a wonderful hotel in a beautiful setting that truly allows you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Bungalows Lydia is absolutely beautiful in all ways. Our family of four stayed in the "Sunflower Suite" with it's sheltered outdoor kitchen and dining area. We overlooked their new infinity pool while watching lingering sunsets over the Pacific. The sisters Lydia and Mayte make vacationing at their resort a true pleasure.

“Perfect for Anniversary”

My wife and I stayed for a week to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We were booked in the Panarama Suite and were the only guests for 5 of 6 nights so we were especially pampered by Lydia and Mayte. We booked based on the stellar reviews on Tripadvisor and can only say that we concur with all the others reviews; this place is special. The views of the ocean, beaches, cliffs and rocks are unsurpassed. The suite was clean, airy and it was very enjoyable to read, eat and do light cooking in an open air kitchen area overlooking the surf or lounge on the deck and enjoy the sunset. As all others mention, this is not a polished 4-5 star resort, and those who seek the solitude and beauty that this place offers will need to overlook the lack of typical amenities such as phone, TV, and AC. Even though the days were hot the breeze kept things cool and the bugs were minimal.

The hotel will soon have a new pool area completed with what appears to be a seperate hot tub and a small river / waterfall which, like everything else is perched with a great view over the beach.

Lydia and Mayte are throwbacks in the hotel industry, two owners with little or no outside help in the running of the hotel. I watched 60-something Lydia wacking leaves off of a palm tree with a machete knife one morning. Mayte speaks good english and arranged for us a private boat to go snorkling one morning and a reservation at the nearby zip line operator another. She also recommended a couple of restaurants that were excellent and called my car rental company's local office when I had a concern about my rental return.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

“perfect small wedding at Bungalows Lydia”

This beautiful ocean-front property was the perfect romantic & secluded spot for our small beach wedding (6 people total). We stayed in the sunset suite on the edge of the beach cliff, waking each morning to breezy palms and pounding surf! It was hot, but only sprinkled occassionally despite being the rainy season (one downpour at night). Our wedding day was beautiful and sunny, and Mayte & Lydia did all they could to help us coordinate the day, including hiring a wonderful caterer to prepare us a fantastic sunset meal under their shady grass-roofed palapa overlooking the ocean. They created a beautiful meal and setting for our intimate celebration. The website photos (bungalowslydia.com) are very accurate.
We will be back, and recommend Bungalows Lydia.
That being said, it is beautiful, and well-maintained, but not luxurious if that is what you are looking for. If you want 2 private beaches, and a quiet setting at the end of the road, this is it! If you need air conditioning and no bugs, then find yourself a more typical (and probably less charming) place to stay.
