“Visited the Memphis in May BBQ Championship”

SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

3 of 5 stars
Pleasant Ridge, Michigan
Jul 24, 2008

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend. We were in town for the BBQ championship. I choose to stay here for the proximity to the tourist stuff. It is well within walking distance to Tom Lee Park, Beale Street, Civil Rights Museum, etc. They only things we drove to during our stay were Graceland and Sun Studios. These were a quite a way outside of downtown.

I found the price to be about what you expect for a all-suite chain of this calibre. I had tried to stay at a less expensive place, however most everything was booked. The hotel was clean and very well-maintained, however it had no personality or elan, just your basic chain hotel.

The room itself was nice. It was a suite so we had a nice sitting area with kitchen area (Microwave, sink, counter space). The sitting area had a couch and 2 chairs. The bedroom area was fairly normal. Mattress was nice and comfortable.

The only problem that we had is that the thermostat on our room was broken. After checking in, I mentioned this to them as we were leaving for dinner. Upon our return, when I entered the room it was still quite warm and stuffy. They did not have it repaired. I went back to the front desk to ask for it to be repaired, and they gave us a new room, this met my expectations.

Overall, I found this hotel to be fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. Pretty much what you would expect. In the future, I would probably try to find a cheaper option. We didn't need the extra spacethat a suite provides. However, if I were to travel for business, I would think to stay here. Enough room to work, or meet with people.

“This is one hotel I would think twice about staying again......”

SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

Jul 22, 2008

I thought this would be a great place seeing as it is a Mariott chain hotel. The service at the front desk was unpleasant. I stood there for 5 minutes while the person behind the desk looked at some paperwork and she knew I was standing there! The sheets on my bed were dirty! (hair, some sort of debris near the pillows, dirt? I have no idea) It was disgusting. The valet people were very nice but when my car was returned I had a huge stain on the passenger side seat.........I would consider any hotel in the heart of Memphis near the Peabody but this hotel is not worth the almost $200.00 per night. The service and uncleanliness made it just an unpleasant experience overall.

“Disappointed”

SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

May 28, 2008

It has a good location, a little hard to find from the directions. The front desk clerk was nice, the valet terrific. The room was dirty. The toilet did not flush - the shower was dirty with hair on the walls. The TV was very small. They did not tell me that if using a debit card they would charge pre authorization charges and then the actual. Since they charge $225.95 pre authorization charges at check-in (for a one night stay) and they the actual charge of $195.95 upon checkout, the pre authorization doesn't fall off automatically. After 2 telephone calls and 4 emails, I still do not have this corrected. I am now waiting for a fax for my bank to release the charges, meanwhile my checking account was debited $421.90 for one night stay. Beware.

“Nice hotel with a great location”

SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

4 of 5 stars
Johnston, Iowa
May 25, 2008

We stayed at the Springhill Suites on our recent trip to Memphis. The location is great because you are far enough away from Beale to have it be quiet, but the distance is very walkable. In addition, the Main Street trolley stops right outside the door of the hotel.

The hotel itself was clean and looks decently new. Our room was very clean and everything worked as it should with the exception of one drawer. Other than that, my only complaint would be the extreme noise generated by the air conditioner.

Parking is shared with the hotel next door (Sleep Inn) and is a well-light, security-monitored lot.

Across the street is a nice little courtyard/park area, and the rooms overlooking this have small balconies.

We would stay here again when we are in Memphis.

“Getaway weekend in Memphis”

SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

4 of 5 stars
Atlanta
May 3, 2008

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for a weekend getaway. The location was very good. We were right on the trolley line and also had a view of Old Man River. I would suggest asking for a quiet room as to not to be disturbed by the trolley noise. They had a nice breakfast each morning which saved us the hassle of trying to find a breakfast place. We had a king suite, ample room for the two of us.
