We were in Memphis for a doctor's sppointment, and found ourselves needing to unexpectedly stay for 2 nights. We stopped at the Hampton on I-40, but they unable to meet our accomodation needs, so they referred us to the Wingate. The Wingate does have an AARP discount available. This is my first stay at a WIngate, so I can't compare it to others in the chain. Our room has two queen beds with mattresses a little harder than Hampton or HI Express, but still comfortable enough for a night's sleep. ( I like a softer mattress personally, but my mother in law likes hers hard, and she slept very well last night.) The rooms have high ceilings, and are equipped with a refrigerator and small microwave. This room has a recliner in the corner with a lamp and table beside it. This was wonderful for me last night because it was far enough away from the other bed that I could stay up late and read in comfort without disturbing my mother in law. The fan on the air conditioner runs constantly and this is always a plus for me because I think the white noise helps muffle out traffic and other hotel noises. In addition to the regular continental breakfast fare I am used to at HI Express, this facility offered biscuits and gravy, sausge patties and Belgian waffles you make yourself. There was also fresh apples, oranges and bananas, yogurts, pastries and breads. There's a Shogun restaurant (hibachi steakhouse) almost right next door, and a Corky's BBQ within 2 miles from the hotel. Several fast food places nearby; Pizza Hut and a few others will deliver directly to your hotel room. Also a convenience store right around the corner. Lots of shopping nearby. Currently, they are adding two traffic lights to this area that will make getting in and out of this area a breeze. ( It's not that bad now, but traffic signals will definitely be a plus. Overall, we have had a pleasant stay. Housekeeping and front desk personnel ( especially Johnnie) have been very courteous and hospitable. (Most of the housekeeping staff do not speak any English, so that's a little bit of a challenge, but we got it worked out.) I would stay here again if we needed to be in the area.
