“Excellent setting & service - good food”

Peat Inn

Service was very attentive, the interior is a perfect setting for dinner, the extremely well cooked food was nicely presented (a tad too much on the small side), the amuse gueule was tepid (a handful of mushroom soup) but full of taste. Wine list is extensive & orientated on French and expensive whereas other areas are represented with very small choice/s - a little odd for travelling & knowledgeable wine drinkers. Proper, fine cut wine glasses for the different types of wines could be expected at this price level. Also, no choice of grappe or fruit brandies although plenty of Malts, Armagnac & the like..
We've enjoyed it but have eaten better & cheaper (the latter not being the issue here) on our travels. Would recommend it but would not rush back.

This was our second attempt to stay at the Peat Inn, as we had booked an earlier weekend which had to be aborted when they discovered that they had double booked us, much to our annoyance. However, the owners did agree to hold their winter rates open to us for a rescheduled weekend and provide a glass of pre dinner bubbly by way of recompense. Like many people who visit the Peat Inn our main reason for going was the food, which was universally excellent. I know one reviewer said the portions were minimalist but honestly we found it refreshing to be able to eat 3 courses and a pre-starter comfortably instead of being stuffed. We certainly weren't hungry afterwards. Ingredients were fresh, combinations sometimes unusual, and the waiting staff were uber professional while not being too formal. Breakfast was also good and the ladies who served it were a great source of local knowledge. The room we had was fine, a large comfortable bed and nice sofa, with good tea and coffee making facilities, though the bathroom could do with a touch of refurbishment to meet the 5* standard. Overall, it was a lovely relaxing weekend and I would recommend it to others.

“Perfection on a plate!”

Peat Inn

Mar 30, 2008

Just returned from a surprise birthday present to the Peat inn. We could only make it for one night unfortunatley otherwise would have been happy to take up their current offer of 3 nights for the price of 2.

We stayed in one of the suites, a split level room with Bed and bathroom on the ground floor and a sitting area above. I must admit it could do with a little bit more imagination on the decoration / ambience front . We were surprised with the Bathroom as anybody around the 6 foot mark will not be able to fit under the shower and given the shape of the bath you cannot stand flat on the base of the bath, as the sides curve in very sharply requiring you to have your wits about you ( A bath matt should be be in place rather than the option of having to ask for one). However.... overall a pleasant place to stay and spend the night / weekend.

But...the main reason for coming to the Peat Inn is the Food! (in my opinion) Absolutely top notch and would have no hesitation to return. We had the 6 course taster menu ( Part of the package) and boy was it good. Easily on a par with anything Gordon Ramsay could dish up (Experienced it) and has been such a long time since tasting fresh ingredients put together by someone who is obviously very talented and passionate about what they do. Well done Chef!! First rate!!! just like our surroundings within the Inn.

The location is remote but thats what we were looking for but only 10 mins from Cupar and 30mins or so from St.Andrews so an ideal base if you are touring.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and the staff were outstanding, totally professional and quite clearly take pride in their profession

Over all a fanatstic experience and cannot wait till we go back.........would have no hesitation to recommend The Peat Inn to anyone.

P.s

Sorry Peat Inn for the slightly negative comments about the rooms!

“Power cut not a problem!”

Peat Inn

Feb 19, 2008

My husband and I spent a night here to as a Valentine's treat. Both the accommodation and food were fantastic and the service second to none. We both left feeling extremely relaxed.

We opted for the luxury break which, although expensive, means that you get a few extra touches making the stay even more enjoyable. On arrival we were shown to the split level Camelia suite. Awaiting us was a bouquet of flowers and a half bottle of champagne. A fantastic way to start! We both had the full tasting menu with wine matching for dinner which I strongly recommend. The hotel experienced a power cut just before our dessert course but the staff didn't seem too fazed and did everything possible to make us comfortable while we waited for power to return.

I must also mention breakfast which was set in the sittig room of our suite. The care and attention that goes into this was exceptional and the homemade bread and jam was particularly delicious.

All in all a great stay. The staff in particular were all very friendly and made us feel at home.

“One of the best!”

Peat Inn

Dec 4, 2007

Just marvellous. In itself this would be a delightful rural spot, with very comfortable, well-appointed suites, the restaurant however is just wonderful. The staff clearly know what they're doing, the service is excellent, the food magnificent, the atmosphere is as informal as you can expect given that most people are there for a special occasion. It also manages to be perfectly suitable for a romantic dinner without having a dining room full of nothing but couples just gazing at each other!

It's not particularly cheap but it's excellent value for money given who they're competing against.

The good service continues after you leave, too, I accidentally left some clothes in my suite on leaving and they were happy to post them back to me! We'll definitely be back.
