We recently stayed 5 days and 4 nights at the Crowne Plaza. We've stayed here every summer the last 3 years. The landscaping is gorgeous, the location quiet and private. We always get a king room with pull-out sofa for our daughters. We love, love, love the firm beds in the rooms, and the linen spray, face mask, ear plugs and CD are fun. I wish the room came with a mini-fridge but it doesn't so we bring our own small travel fridge and eat breakfast in the room each day. The decor throughout the hotel and rooms is very nice. Our room was cleaned very well every day and we were never aware of the maids coming and going, even for the turn down service. The towels at the pool are a great convenience, and the food from the pool bar is excellent! The beach is beautiful and very convenient but often crowded because of the public beach access. Our daughters love to feed the numerous turtles in the waterways on the resort grounds, and we enjoy the many adirondeck chairs and hammocks. The staff is very pleasant and polite. We are Priority Club members so we do not get charged any resort fees when we redeem our points for our stay. Without these points we couldn't afford to stay at this lovely hotel. When we are here we feel like we are truly on vacation and feel fortunate to be able to stay here. The location is great, and the Shelter Cove area right down the street has great shopping and dining. Hilton Head Island and the Crowne Plaza Resort are a great destination for fun and relaxation!

My husband and I have visited HH Island every year for the past 10 years and have enjoyed both the Hilton Oceanfront and the Weston. We decided to take a spur of the moment weekend and since both of the other Hotels were booked we thought we'd try the Crowne Plaza. Wow! We booked a standard room with 2 beds. The room was crisp and clean and quiet! The grounds were beautiful with a short walk to the beach. I agree that the pool "could" be larger but was fine for our short stay. We even walked up to the Hilton to see what we were missing and both felt that it was a little old. Maybe that was because we were enjoying the "newness" of the Crowne. Most likely we were more excited to get what we felt was the same level of resort "feel" for about $80 less per night. And that adds up fast. Went to the Fresh Market, which was very close by, for lunch fixins. (Yum) Well done Crowne Plaza! We will be back!

Compared to one of the other beachfront resorts that we have stayed at on Hilton Head Island, the Crown Plaza is disappointing. As another reviewer said, when you are outside amidst the lush landscaping, you will feel like you are staying at a resort, but all the rest of it feels like you are just in a regular hotel. We were VERY LUCKY and even had a prime room overlooking the lush courtyard and pool. Here are my main gripes.

1. Service--The staff is obviously NOT instructed to greet guests with a friendly Hello. I felt like a was invisible. The concierge desk was tiny and one young lady must have been new because she couldn't help me out with anything. Quality of service is the most important factor that affects my stay at a hotel.

2. Beach--For my children, the beach just wasn't quite close enough to the hotel. It felt like a trek everytime we set out, hauling our sand toys and beach chairs with us.

3. Room--All in all it was fine. It had a great view as mentioned, but the beds were not comfortable. I had trouble sleeping every night of the trip. This is the second most important factor affecting my stay.

4. Pool--The outdoor pool is simply too cold in April. No one was swimming in it. The indoor pool and hot tub were fine. My kids spent most of the time here.

5. Kids amenities--There are no staff scheduled activities for kids in April. Most resorts offer this amenity.

6. Hotel common space--The lobby is rather small. I didn't really find the decor to be in need of updating as some people have. It is definitely not ostentacious. The decor is a simple nautical theme.

Although nothing was terrible, I probably will pass on this resort in the future.

We stay at this hotel every other year for a conference and the location of the room is what can make or break your visit. This trip we were lucky to get a courtyard room so the view outside our window was really nice. We could see the pool yet the plants gave us the feeling of privacy. We've been going to this Crowne Plaza for over 15 years and they hold steady on their service and rooms. The pool is wonderful and it's a great little walk to the beach. The beach is great! The rooms are large and the pull out couch works great for kids. We aren't real excited about the food but it gives us an excuse to go out and discover restaurants on the island. The layout of the hotel is really nice; if you have kids they can run around in the lagoon area and you can watch them while they feel like they have freedom. We really look forward to the conference each year and have a wonderful time at the Crowne Plaza.
