Upon recommendations from more than one person, my husband and I and our friend went to the Chowder Bowl for lunch. I ordered fish and chips, my husband ordered the Chowder Bowl and our friend ordered grilled oysters and tea.

The fish and chips were good, but didn't seem particularly extraordinary. Our friend ordered tea and never got it. They also brought her fried oysters and she had to wait while they recooked another batch. My husband enjoyed his clam chowder, but didn't think it was any way special. We've been on vacation for nearly a week in Oregon and he's had chowder nearly every day and he didn't think that this was any better than average. (The best chowder he had was at an Irish pub in Eureka, CA.) It was slightly better than the chowder served at Quizno's Subs.

We paid $30 for lunch for 2 and that seemed a little high as neither of us ordered drinks; we just got the lunch entree with nothing extra. It was a good hot lunch on a stormy day.

With reviewers claiming that the Chowder Bowl serves the "best clam chowder in town," my boyfriend and I had to make a visit. We spent the entire day buying souvenirs and completely forgot to have lunch so by the time 6 rolled around, we were starving.

Immediately as we stepped into the building, we were greeted by one of the most friendliest waiters, which gave a good first impression early on. We ordered two cups of clam chowder (of course), a plate of onion rings, a mushroom + Swiss burger, and a chili burger. The chowder was good, much better than Mo's. Was it the best though? ...Not so much. We've had better. The onion rings, though, got our vote! And both burgers were decent. The golden fries that came with the mushroom burger was fun, cut in oval shapes with thin fried skins, very tasty.

The bottom line is that the Chowder Bowl serves great food and has a lively, bustling atmosphere. It is definitely recommended.
