This motel was perfect for us! We stayed there 2 nights while visiting Cedar Point. It is a small, family-run motel that is decorated with traditional, old-fashioned motel decor (like wood paneling for example). Very nostalgic! Our room was very clean and our window air conditioning unit worked great. We had two full beds that were comfortable (you may want to bring your own pillow), a small fridge, a good TV with cable, tile bathroom with a strong shower, and two small chairs. There is a nice pool on the property but we never had time to use it because we spent most of our time at Cedar Point. The staff is super nice and friendly.

The motel is just a couple miles from the main entrance of Cedar Point (make sure you get directions when you make your reservation) and is easy to get to once you understand where it is. It is a good place for those who want an affordable, clean place to stay and who don't need nor care about fancy amenities. If you are expecting the Hilton or a party hotel this is not the place for you! It is a quaint, sleepy old-fashioned motel. It is located close to a railroad track so there is a few trains that go through in the early night. It didn't bother me any but I was dead tired from walking around Cedar Point all day!

I hope to stay at Maples again next time I visit Cedar Point! What a great find!

“Great Owners and Nice Little Room”

We chose this motel to stay at while on vacation for 2 days at Cedar Point. The reviews were all good, so I felt safe in booking here. The owners are wonderful! The rooms are small, with old 60's furniture, but very clean. Had a little fridge in the room, which came in handy with 3 teenagers. Maid was super nice, too. The only bad part is the train that goes by every so often. It's pretty loud, but didn't wake my husband, boys or myself up during the night. Pool was clean and nice. A little cold, though. Overall, I would stay here again, but probably not with my 3 boys. It was just too small.

“Loved the Maples”

Maples Motel

My husband and I had stayed at the Maples Motel several years ago and had had such a wonderful time that we set aside a couple of extra days last month on our way to Chicago from New Jersey to stay there again. Same delightful owner, so cordial and welcoming. She seemed like an old friend. We were so glad to see her, and she even remembered our children who had been with us on the earlier trip.

The staff is equally friendly and accommodating. Our room was immaculate and the bed so comfortable we had a hard time getting up. Coffee and donuts are served in the office and they hit the spot and got us revved up to go to Cedar Point. The weather had been very cool and rainy so the motel pool wasn't open this time, but we didn't mind. We enjoyed a nap and then went to a dandy restaurant nearby, recommended by the owner.

Next day we went to Cedar Point again and toured around the area including Port Clinton and just had a relaxing, happy time.

We are planning to come back next summer and bring our little 6 year old grandson. I know he will have a ball, will love the pool and the owner and the staff, all of whom obviously love and welcome little children.

I think the Maples deserves 10 stars! And it is so-o reasonable!

What a great find! We had not intended on staying in Sandusky - but the kids preferred to get a hotel and return to Cedar Point the next day also. (We were already lodging in downtown Cleveland). As a joke, we told them, "You find a great, clean hotel for less than $50.00 and we will do it! They pull out the laptop, and searched, and came up with the Maples. As parents, of course, we were leery, but then read the reviews. We decided to swing by and check it out. This was the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and we were provided a room with 2 double beds, and a twin bed, for $45! It slept the 4 of us perfectly, and each kid was thrilled to have their own bed. Our daughter is very into history, and vintage, and this was perfect for her! For a one night stay, it was perfect. They said it reminded them of the cottages in the movie "Niagara". Not swanky, by any means, but a bit of the past, and wonderfully nice hosts. (We had to borrow tools for a car problem, and they were very accomodating!) Very short and pretty drive along the coast of Lake Erie to Cedar Point (took 7 minutes). Kids thought the front sign was cool - and couldn't believe there was a time when a color tv would be an advertising feature. In fact, they insisted on getting their pictures taken with it! I will upload those photos. They had free donuts, but they were all gone by 9:00 a.m., so be sure to get up early to get them. We ended up driving to the donut shop where they came from to buy our own, and they were delicious! Next time we are in Sandusky, we will be sure to stay here, and maybe add a day so that we can enjoy the hotel grounds and walking trails (across the street). Thanks again to the Maples family for a great impromptu stay!

“Old-fashioned motel right next to Cedar Point”

Maples Motel

This was our third stay at the Maples. This time we stayed in room #20 with 2 double beds and a mini-fridge. They also have several rooms with one queen bed. The Maples is not a fancy place, but it is quite clean. The bathrooms in the rooms with double beds are a little bigger (although there was a little bit of peeling paint in ours).

Our daughter had fun swimming in the pool (very clean). And we ordered pizza from Chet and Matt's, delivered to our door, and enjoyed at one of the patio tables on the property.

As others have mentioned, there are a number of trains that go through at night. But they didn't really bother us as it fits in with the old-time charm of the Maples.

The complimentary donuts and coffee in the morning were great!

So, if you want a bargain (we paid $55 including tax) and friendly service. go to the Maples.
