“Loved the Ecco Hotel”

I just stayed at the Ecco Hotel for a Yoga Retreat.
It is a lovely place !
Situated on a hill overlooking the Lake and town of Patzcuaro, the views are incredible. It is very peaceful and a wonderful place for a yoga retreat.
The staff at the hotel could not be more helpful and friendly.
Michelle Roos, the manager, is very accomodating, and knows evrything about the area. She is helpful and always ready to create local excursions. And she does everything, suggests where to go, arranges transportation (if needed) and sometimes goes with the group.
The rooms are lovely, not overly fancy, but beautiful views, and the suites are very large with stove, microwave, coffee maker.
And extremely clean.
The hotel is situated about a 20 minute walk from Patzcuaro, a very Mexican town that is fun to stroll around. No screaming tourist signs, just a town with lots of shops and restaurants.
I would highly recommend this hotel for future yoga retreats, quiet vacations or vacations with famlies. It has I think about 12 rooms, so would be ideal for a family reunion.

My wife and I stayed at the Eco in January while driving from Manzanillo to our winter home in San Miguel. We jumped at the chance to go back to the Eco Hotel in February while family were visiting from Canada. I am happy to say that Patzcuaro was as wonderful as it was the first time, and the Eco was even better. They now serve a full breakfast in the beatuful dining room overlooking the lake and islands. Enchanting!

“The Real Deal”

Encinitas, CA

If you are looking for the Real Mexico. This is it! The hotel is a great place to stay, tranquil and beautiful. Michelle your hostess will take you into the surrounding villages that have been there for centuries and you will meet the craftsmen of old. We have traveled all over main-land Mexico and Patzcuaro is one place we would love to go back to. The hotel is located on a quite hilltop just above town. The walk to town is a few minutes and a great experience. We even ate at the local open-air market and it was fantastic!

“Beyound Spectacular”

We saw the hotel thru a webb site from Ixtapa/Zoowa. Since we were picking our car up on the coast, E-Mailed Michelle for driving instructions. Her instructions were perfect for someone who had never been to Patzcuaro before. They had changed the exit and you could make a left where before you could not when exiting the toll road from the Pacific Coast. We took the wrong road into town per Michelle's instruction. After driving around the Centro part of town, stopped at a hotel off the main square- language problems. Showing me a map, continue on this street to a light and turn left and next light turn right. When we turned off the main highway onto a cobble stone going up a hill and going around a church- we thought we were lost. All of a sudden, is the number we were looking for, When you go thru the gate, the view of the Patzcuaro Lake and island is spectacular. We had a 1bedroom with a king bed. There was a pourch just outside of the bedroom facing the lake. We really enjoyed the 3 nights sitting on the pourch having good conversations with friends we made and watching it get dark. We took an all day tour Thursday making 3 different stops: first wood carvings ( my wife bought a Madonna), the 2nd- making hats and other items out of strips of palms weaved together (wife bought a purse) and 3rd village was where they use reeds from the lake. On the way back, stopped at a German Restrauant known for their lake trout.
On Friday, did a half day tour to the town known for the sound of hummingbirds and a artisan known for his pottery making. The town has ruins from a cilivlation destroyed by the Spaniards.
Michelle made our trip to Patzcuaro very worth while being both a hostess and tour guide for the tours that we made and our stay at the Econ Hotel and it's view make us want to go back as soon as we can.

“Wonderful hotel”

Eco-Hotel

Feb 29, 2008

I stayed here with my family in one of the suites, which was very comfortable and well furnished. The staff are delightful; very helpful and accommodating. The views from this hotel perched up on a hill are just beautiful and well worth the short distance out of town.We especially enjoyed a tour led by Michelle into the villages around the lake where we could see the local craftsmen and women at work.Another highlight was the language evening on Wednesdays , when locals and visitors meet to improve their English or Spanish as well as make new friends over a cup of tea. We will definitely be back!
