“This place really needs some work”

Was out here on business and had to stay in a local hotel. There really aren't too many choices in Melfort, SK.

When you see the hotel on the outside it seems to be ok. However upon entry into the lobby you quickly see that things are quite out dated. Very 80s. Not that that is a bad thing however you can definitely see the wear and tear.

Check in was smooth with no problems. Cheery front desk lady who took all my necessary information and confirmed my room with 2 double beds.

She originally assigned me to room 115 but when I got down there the ice machine and vending machine were infront of the door. It was pretty noisy. Walked back and asked for another room. Was given room 129. During my walk on the first floor, the strong smell of cigarette smoke was prevalent. I am a non smoker so this bugged me a lot. I could see that smoking rooms and non smoking rooms were mixed all together in the same section of the hotel.

The hallway carpets are stained and musty. Pink and dark aqua seem to be the color scheme in the hall ways.

Room 129 that I stayed in seems to be a converted smoking room into a non smoking room. The ceiling in the washroom shows condensation droplets that are dark yellow. Hairs were stuck in this yellow substance as well. Again, carpet was stained and musty in the room. Washroom was dirty. Mold on the shower curtain and other ppl's hair are around the sink. The pop corn ceiling is a yellowish color (evident of past smoking).

I had to go out and get a bottle of Febreeze to spray the room down every day.

No central air so if you are a light sleeper you may want to bring ear plugs since the AC wall unit is a little loud.

My co worker who stayed in the hotel got a 'business room' on the 2nd floor and he told me it was day and night compared to what he got before (he stayed on the 1st floor before).

Note: there is no elevator to the 2nd floor

Will I be staying here again? Yes, I have another business trip out here and have asked for a business room on the 2nd floor this time. Again, there aren't many choices in this town other than a local motel.

FYI - there is no Tim Horton's or Starbuck's around for the dedicated coffee/beverage drinkers.

Breakfast - just down the street is Smitty's. Standard breakfast fare with no complaints.

Dinner - just down the street is Little Venice. Very busy. Everyone in town goes there to eat. I think it's the only larger restaurant besides Smitty's.

“worst hotel experience of my life”

We stayed at the travel lodge in melfort due to a competition in tisdale. We decided to stay at the travel lodge due to reputation and it had a pool and hottub. so we would have to make the daily trip to tisdale 25 minutes, but it should be worth having a proper place to sleep. On thursday night our whole club 15 rooms of people came back from the competition at 8:30 pm. the lounge was closed the pool was closed. None of us had eaten yet and had to venture out of the hotel in -40 below weather to find something to eat. We we informed that the hotel did not have enough staff to keep these facilities open. We did book this hotel 3 months in advance, i feel that should have been sufficient time to find enough staff. In the morning the pool was opened 1 hour after the said time, but the water was so cold that you could not swim and the hot tub was still not open. The hotel staff said that this always happens when it is this cold out. During the night we were woken up numerous times with banging pipes and of all things someone shoveling snow right outside our window at 5am!!!! the beds were old and you rolled to the middle of the bed, old shag carpets in the room were filthy and I could not allow my kids to sit on it, drinking glasses still had lipstick on them from the previous clients and there was blood on our bathroom door and I don't dare say what was all over the wall beside the bed. It was disgusting, unclean and service was terrible as well as the staff being extremely rude. I do not advise this hotel to anyone. At 125.00 per night, I would have rather stayed in Tisdale at a motel above a bar....... The Travel lodge franchise really needs to give this one a overhaul. It has deterred me from ever staying at another Travel lodge
