“Good remodel”

Village Inn of Blowing Rock

Sep 12, 2007

We stopped here for one night on our way to a mother/daughter getaway.
The Inn appears to have been very recently remodeled, and is beautifully done. Great care was taken on the remodel to make lovely, comfortable rooms. We booked the pet friendly Storie Cottage. The cottage (not really a cottage but a suite in a building of 3 suites) consisted of a large living room with pull out sofa and flat screen TV; a full kitchen with granite countertops; bedroom with TV; and bathroom. There was a small stream running behind the building.
As other posters have mentioned, the inn is off of a busy highway, but does not suffer from road noise. Some of the rooms overlook a pretty green area in front of the stream. I saw many guests enjoying the evening on the rocking chairs on their balcony.
The suite/cottage was very lovely and clean. There were a couple of problems though:
1) Front desk told us we would have sheets in the unit for the sofa bed. There were not- we had to call for them, and make up the bed. The spare pillows had dirty pillowcases with mascara stains on them.
2) Breakfast was very stingy. They were out of OJ, cream cheese, and had a very limited selection of cold cereals. When another guest asked for the juice to be refilled, she was told that they were "short". No apology.
3) There was ony one small mirror in the entire unit--a disaster for 2 women needing to get ready at the same time.
Aside from these small issues, I would stay here again, as the rooms are really gorgeous.
There is a lovely, somewhat upscale restaurant called Twigs right next door at which we had a pleasant dinner. It was very relaxing after a long day's drive.

“Lovely place to stay”

Village Inn of Blowing Rock

4 of 5 stars
Greensboro, NC

We stayed at the Village Inn for a much needed weekend away. The room we stayed in was 114. There was a hot tub for two on the private deck that overlooked a stream. The rooms have just been updated with flat screen tv's, new furnishings, and marble baths. The continental breakfast is pretty blahh...Bagels and cold cereal, but the lodge is nice and the staff is great. They serve wine and cheese at 5 pm, we expected something a little different than the cheese cubes from the grocery store we received. We did not try the wine. This Inn is a little further away from the main street than some of the other places you could stay. Overall, it is a really upscale, beautiful place to stay.
There is not alot to do in Blowing Rock at night, some of the shops close at 6 pm so we ended up getting ice cream at Kilwin's after dinner and sitting in the park across the street. We were seeking peace and quiet so it was perfect. We do not recommend Canyons restaurant but they do have a live band. Macadoo's in Boone is great for lunch. A drive through Valle Crucis is a must! Just a really beautiful drive.

My wife and I have stayed in Boone before, but on this trip decided to stay in Blowing Rock. We chose the Village Inn after seeing their website. We got an excellent weeknight rate and were pleasantly surprised by the room.

You can't help but be a little nervous when you pull up to the hotel. Its on the highway that leads through town, but once in your room you are far removed from the town and cars around you.

The rooms are small, but pack a punch. I can't remember being in a room with so much that stands out in a positive manner. Its obvious they care about the decor and want to make the room a unique experience. The bathroom was absolutely amazing, though small. It had a feel of Italian design to it. The flat screen tv was nice, but a little blurry. This is the first hotel I have stayed in that has had a flat screen. Its really hard to compare this hotel to any I have stayed at before. Its just so different that it is in a whole new catagory from the Marriott's and the Hilton's that we so often stay at. It was a very nice change.

My only real complaint was the noise. We had to keep the heat running constantly. When we turned it off we could hear a neighbor snoring and the cars on the highway. With the heat running all the sounds were drowned out.

I would consider staying here again, but would also consider their sister inns in blowing rock that are a little closer to the shops and cafe's.

The Village Inn was a bit of a hike from the center of Blowing Rock and the weekend we were there it was just too cold to make that walk.

“NC Getaway!”

Village Inn of Blowing Rock

We drove from Cleveland, OH to Blowing Rock, NC. We stayed at the Village Inn. It was a great Inn. The room was cozy and gorgeous. There was a wine and cheese reception everyday at 5 PM at the Lodge. The breakfast in the morning is so-so. Just regular items, cereal, bagels, and danish. The bathroom in our room was so original. The tile floor and decor was just so not the regular hotels that you go to everyday. We ate at Crippen's which is fabulous and is featured in Southern Living Magazine. We went to Six Pence just down the road for evening cocktails which is a nice Pub. We also went to Twig's one evening for cocktails. They had a three man band which played great music. It was packed with locals. We had a great time. One disappointment was "The Gamekeeper" restaurant was closed. I had made reservations online and did not check my voice mail at home or emails throughout the trip. We drove to the restaurant and unfortunatley they were redoing their floors. But they tried every effort to get in touch with us. They even bought our drinks at Crippens due to the issue. I really enjoyed our trip. It reminds me a little of St AUgustine where they have the inns and restaurants and little shops all together. I would reccommend this trip to anyone. I don't know if children would enjoy it.
